After a long day of school Olivia, Maddie, Kennedy, and I wanted to practice for cheer tryouts. We walk in the gym and see boys playing basketball.

"Ken, we can't practice with them here." Olivia says.

I look closely at the boys and notice it's Jalen, Josh, Scottie, and some other boys on the team.

"I got this." I say to Liv walking on the gym floor.

"Wait, what is she doing?" Liv whispers to Kennedy and Maddie.

I continue to walk.

"Okay, boys.. me and my girls wanna work, so could we make arrangements to half the court?" I ask them.

"Sorry, baby. We don't do half court, but we can do something at my house later." One of the boys says holding the ball close to him.

"The name is Trevor by the way." He says as he winks.

I roll my eyes.

"First, of all don't call me baby and second I dont want to do anything with you and third...
you have to understand we need to practice for cheer tryouts." I tell him.

"What? Cheer is not a sport." The boy says laughing.

"Makenna it's fine let's just practice at your house." Liv says.

"Okay an asshole isn't either." I say crossing my arms.

The boys 'ohh' and laugh.

"Y'all leave her alone. Just let them have half court." Jalen says walking up to the group.

"Bro we never let the cheerleader girls half the court." Trevor says.

"It's fine.. y'all won't be long right, Makenna." Jalen says looking at me.

I look back at him.

"Right." I say nodding.

"Dude this is so stupid-" Trevor says but Jalen interrupts him.

"I think you're forgetting who's the king of this court." Jalen says.

Trevor sighs and walks to a half of a court.

He walks up to me.

"I didn't take you as a cheer girl." He said teasingly.

"Well good for you i do cheer, soccer, volleyball, and swim." I say back.

"So much for an athlete, huh?" He says.

I just laugh.

"Thank you, really." I say.

"No problem. He was being an ass anyway. No one deserves to be treated like that." He says staring at me.

I raise my eyebrows because he continues to look at me.

He finally snaps out.

"Oh, sorry." He says.

"It's fine.. is there anyway I can pay you back. I feel like you're just being my super hero." I say.

"Nah, it's all good, Makenna." He says.

I smile at him then walk off to my side of the court.

Olivia looks at me.

"Makenna, what was that?" She gasps asking me.

"What was what?"

"You and Jalen, silly." She says laughing.

"You haven't heard about them. Jalen was holding her books in the hallway. They're the new 'it' couple." Maddie says.

"No.. no we're just friends... at least I think we are." I say.

"Well it seems to him it's a little more than that." Liv says pointing at Jalen.

I turn around to see him staring at me. He smiles and wave. I wave back then he gets hit with a basketball.

I turn around and laugh.

"You got him sprung girl." Liv says.

"He's never act like that towards a girl." Kennedy says.

"I'm sure he's just being nice... c'mon let's work." I say.

I notice the gym is empty, so I get my stuff and walk out the doors.

As I'm walking to my car, I hear someone calling me name.

It was Jalen.

"Wassup?" I ask.

"You left your phone." He says waving it in the air.

I grab it. "Thank you so much!" I say. 

"Yeah, you say that to me a lot." He says.

We both laugh.

"I also put a surprise in there." He says.

"What do you mean?" I ask chuckling.

He pulls out his phone and I notice him typing.  When he's finished he looks at me and my phone dings.

I look down at it and see.

Hey.

I look back at him and laugh.

"Really? Your number? Why would I need that?" I ask.

"Just incase you need saving, baby... you can hit me up. And I also know you're very stubborn to let me have your number." He says smirking.

"Yeah, yeah.. very funny." I say crossing my arms.

"I'm not stubborn.. I just want no distractions from school my sports. You know the drill." I say to him.

"Yeah.. I feel you." He says dribbling the ball.

"Well I've got to go. You keep doing you're things, big shot." I say patting his back walking off.

"See ya, athlete!" Jalen says running off.
