Emma
Next day
"So Miss Winters, you're admitting to not having enough evidence on this case?" my favourite lawyer Mr fricken Donahue
"Yes, Mr Donahue." I said and the crowd muttered.
"Not enough evidence to prove they're innocent or guilty." I smiled coyly.
"Neither sides have enough evidence, your honour. We're looking at this skin deep. I believe that the parents are worthy of their children. But that's my opinion. Which will differ from other peoples. Mr Donahue here says they're guilty as that's the way he thinks. Fair enough! Fair enough. I'm not one to disagree with opinion." I said as I paced.
"But without the visit from social services, none of us can be sure. Without further knowledge, none of us can be sure. And the fact Mr Donahue, with no evidence, just his opinion, wants to prosecute these parents is not what our judicial system is about!"
A few people clapped.
"So Miss Winters do you suppose we drop this court case?" Mr Donohue said.
"No. We wait for social services to conduct their investigation." I shrugged.
"The jury will confer after a 45-minute break had been permitted. Session Adjourned."
I sighed as the gavel was hit down.
I went over to Andrea and Drew, tightening my ponytail. Don't see much of Chantelle since she moved departments.
"You survived!" Andrea stood up and hugged me.
"Yeah that Donohue is one tough cookie." I sighed.
Drew, being Drew, relaxed on the bench, his feet on the back of the other chewing gum.
He rolled his eyes and said "how can you be the best lawyer in town, no offence Andy..."
I raised a brow as I leaned against the side of the bench.
"And be so doubtful? You put him in his place and the whole court. He may be a tough cookie, but your not a big fan of cookies are you Emmy?"
Andy looked to me shocked "Never really took a liking to them! Apart from homemade ones."
"So. You'll deal with him." He stood up quickly.
"Oh and you're my girl. That's a pretty good confirmation. I know you well enough." He smirked and gave a small wink as he held my waist before heading down the corridor.
"I would thank that man if he ran me over with a truck." Andy said.
"Same..." I sighed and bit my lip.
We both stood silent a second before we burst out laughing.
"He has that influence on people." I smiled as we started to walk.
"How?! That guy could get any girl."
"Mmm but he had to fight for me." I giggled.
"And that's why you're perfect for him." She giggled too.
"Hey..." I went over to Drew at the water fountain.
"Hey yourself Miss Winters." He gave me a smirk as he glanced up and down.
"You know there's nothing I love more than watching you do your thing. Really hot." He raised a brow.
I tilted my head and smiled "Glad you think so..." I winked just as I saw Mr Donahue turning the corner behind Drew.
