The Eighth Year - Under Major Reconstruction

23 - Come Back

Draco, Hermione, and her parents all sat in their living room catching up with each other on what they had missed over the past year and a half.

Including the outcome of the war, the press Hermione had received, and the many, many gifts she had received.
Finally concluding with the news of the law, and that Hermione and Draco would soon have to be married.

"Isn't this the guy you told us bullied you the last several years?" Her dad asks protectively

"Uh. Yeah. Sorry about that, sir. But we have gotten past all of that and are truly moving forward. Mainly me. My father is in Azkaban, my mother confines herself to the manor and I am working on becoming a better man. Hermione and I are dating and are soon to be married whether we like it or not...we're just trying to make the best of a...unfortunate situation." Draco explains

"Honestly. We're doing well together. Harry and Ginny are engaged, Ron is proposing to his girlfriend on Christmas...most of our friends are engaged." Hermione explains trying to draw the attention away from Draco's past

"So tell us more about this...law." Hermione's mother grimaces

"Basically, we have to be married by the end of this term...so we'll need to begin planning it soon. Then by the end of next year, we have to...ehm." She drifts off unable to say it, let alone think of having her own children

"So we will be Grandparents?! Already! I thought I would have had a few more years to prepare for this!" Hermione's mother yells, standing up from her seat on the couch

"Well...we have a year." Her husband says, pulling her back down to the couch

They continue talking about the past year and a half, littered with apologies throughout for another hour until Hermione and Draco both realize they hadn't told Narcissa what they were doing and should probably get back to the Manor before she hexes Hermione

"We have to get back before Draco's mother kills me...please come back home. I need you close." Hermione begs her parents as they hug

"We'll move back as soon as we can. We have to sell this house and find a house back in Oxford. It'll take a while." Her father explains

"Perhaps you could come to stay at the manor over Christmas Holiday?" Draco blurts out

"Draco. Your mother would never allow that." Hermione says sternly

"She will if I have anything to say about it." He gulps

"I'll try to pop over again this week. I love you." She says to her parents, then pulls Draco out of their house and apparates them back to the manor

"I'm going to talk to my mother about this." Draco says as soon as they land in Wiltshire

"Draco. Why bother? She'll never allow that and it'll just tear you two further apart. I want you and your mother to have a good relationship." She begs

"Hermione. She will let them stay here. She will do anything not to lose me. Just let me ask. I want you to spend the holidays with your parents...but I want to be there too. So, let me do this."

Hermione sighs and gives him an annoyed 'Fine', causing him to all but run into the house to find his mother, Hermione following slowly behind him
