Right after our lunch inihatid ako ni Evans sa bahay. Nahanap ko agad si mommy sa aming sala na nagbabasa ng magazine.
"Mom."
"You're early.." I nodded to her.
"Where's dad? Isn't he home yet?" Her forehead creased for a moment then she sighed.
"Honey, next week pa uuwi ang daddy mo. Do you really miss him that much?"
What? It can't be. I just saw him a while ago. Hoe could he not come home?
"He didn't call or something?"
"No. He would call if he comes home but today he didn't. Well, last night he did."
"What did he say?" Her eyes narrowed as she looks at me.
"Nothing. He just said their going to have an important meeting today, he must be in that meeting by now."
"Where?"
"In Makati, with Victorio and Isagani."
Oh, Victorio and Isagani.
"But.." he's here. I wanted to blurt it but I stopped myself.
Why didn't he tell us, or mom, that he's somewhere here. Sa tabi-tabi lang.
"Breaker.. uuwi naman ang daddy mo, and you two could talk by then. Or you want me to call him instead?"
"No. I mean, it's okay mom. I'll just wait for him."
I spent the rest of the day thinking what the hell is going on. My mind's in haywire and is giving me ideas but I don't want to buy it. Ayoko. But why the hell is he with--
Without thinking I dialled dad's number and before I know it he's already on the other line.
"Yes, young lady?" He's voice is soft and soothing just like before.
"Hello.. dad uhm"
"What is it?"
I opened my mouth but words won't come out.
"Bree? Is something wrong?" a hint of panic is in his voice.
"Nothing! I.. I just want to know what you're doing?" I bit my lip. I heard him sigh.
"I'm at work. Why?" He sounded calm. Like everything's fine. Like there's nothing wrong. Like I didn't just saw him with a woman, while my mom thinks he's in Makati with his company Victorio and Isagani.
"Daddy, why were you so busy these past few months? "
"I'm sorry, darling. There's just.. there's a lot of work and I can barely finish it all for days so I need to extend my stay herr for a week or two."
"Are you coming home next week, on monday? I miss you dad."
"I'm so sorry, I won't be home 'til then.. maybe on thursday? I promise."
What, again? He won't be home 'til wednesday next week?
"But why? Did you tell mom about that?"
"I am going to tell her later, when I'm back to my suite."
"Okay."
I can't believe he's lying. Bakit hindi niya masabi na nandito lang naman siya o kung kinailangan niya lang umuwi rito at babalik din kalaunan, why not just tell us if he isn't doing anything wrong. Why would he lie?
Tinawagan nga niya si mommy nang mag alas syete ng gabi. I can tell that mom's a bit disappointed when she told me during our dinner that dad's not coming home.
