We took their time on the way back, enjoying the fresh night air and a moment without the craziness of the palace. I considered camping out for the night to more time, but I believe I had run from my responsibilities long enough. And I needed to talk to Peter and stop a royal family meltdown.

I was lost in my thought when I heard a snap of a branch from behind me. Ben heard it too, looking at me for confirmation. I pulled my blade from my thigh holster, looking everywhere for any sign of movement. Ben growled next to me, warning any followers to make a different discussion, but I continued to see nothing but darkness.

Without warning, a deep howl filled the entire forest from a presence within 6 feet of us.

Instantly I jumped on Ben's back and he took off into a full sprint back to the castle. Facing one wolf was one thing, but taking on an entire pack would not be smart of us. We needed to put as much distance away from the alerting call as possible. I held onto Ben's fur tightly, trusting him fully as we sped off into the darkness. I looked behind me in search of the owner of the howl but saw nothing. I could hear footsteps behind us, which was the only sigh that we were behind followed. Another howl followed, alerting his pack to the change in positions.

"Shit," I mumbled into Ben's fur.

The witch's supporters would have a field day with capturing the two biggest traitors of the war. The footsteps started gaining on us and gripped my sword tighter, preparing for a fight. I just hope we could end it quickly before the rest of his members find us.

From the darkness, something whizzed past my head, which was followed by the whimper of the wolf following us. I looked up to see Susan saddled on her horse, bow still up from its shot.

"Hurry!" She orders, falling in pace behind us to the castle.

We made record time back to Cair Paravel, and the gates dropped for us as the guards yelled to one another. "Queen Susan is back. Lady Ashton has been found."

"You went out looking for me?" I asked Susan skeptically. "Thank you, but you didn't need to do that for me."

"There's a lot you don't know," Susan told me surely.
