"Happy Halloween my favorite spooky friends!" I greeted the occupants of the Jones House as I entered the front door. Jughead, Betty, and I were planning on chilling and watching scary movies while passing out candy for the night, but I had yet to hear back from my boyfriend about his arrival. Betty and Jellybean were the only ones in sight as I closed the door behind me. "I brought extra candy and a slushie for JB!"

Said girl sprung up from the table where she was carving a pumpkin to take the cold drink from my hand. "Thanks!"

"Nice costume, Alex Russo," Betty commented from the couch with a smile.

I tossed my hands up in the air. "Finally, somebody noticed! The guy at the gas station looked at me so funny because he couldn't figure out who I was."

Jellybean looked me over for a moment. "Nah, I don't see it." I waved her off before moving around the couch to sit next to Betty. "How come you're not in costume?" JB asked the blonde next to me.

"I am. I'm dressed as Laurie Strode." Jellybean gave her a weird look to which Betty looked slightly offended. "From the original Halloween..."

Jellybean nodded her head in fake agreement before returning to her pumpkin without another word as the doorbell rang out, signaling the arrival of trick or treaters. Betty stood up and grabbed the bowl of candy before going to pass it out. I saw her pause for a moment after opening the door as she stared straight ahead.

"Betty?" I asked as I got to my feet and walked up behind her to see two kids on the porch, one dressed as the Gargoyle King and the other as the Black Hood. My breath caught in my throat for a brief moment before I reminded myself of what happened that night before the summer. I set my hand on the blonde's shoulder to hopefully help pull her back to reality.

"You guys look great," She said after a brief moment before she set candy in each of their bags. "Have fun." She closed the door soon after they stepped off the porch before turning to face me. I gave her a reassuring smile as she shook her head to brush what just happened away.

"What time is Jughead getting here?" Jellybean asked as Betty and I returned to the couch.

I frowned at the mention of my boyfriend. "Uh, I don't know, actually. I keep texting him." I was beginning to get worried about what exactly was happening with him. I was slowly getting used to the sporadic texts with him being at Stonewall, but something about this didn't feel right.

"Whatever," JB huffed in disappointment, "I'm going upstairs to play Minecraft."

"Do you think something happened to Jughead?" Betty asked once the younger girl disappeared up the stairs to her room.

I sighed, leaning my head against my hand that propped up on the back of the couch. "I don't know. He's been really focused on classes so I know he's not on his phone as much, you know? But something about this just feels weird."
