If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life. ~Oscar Wilde

Ashton's POV

A few days have passed and Luke and I were walking down the street. He seemed, okay recently. Not bubbly, but he always had a small smile on his lips.

We were walking down the sidewalk, our hands locked together.

"I'm hungry." Luke said and I went wide eyed and turned to him. "..What?"

"Do you want something to eat?" I asked.

"Um.. Can we get ice cream?" Luke smiled.

"Of-Of course!" I smiled as I dragged Luke to the ice cream parlor. We entered the door and Luke looked around, like a child in a curious state. "Hey babe, what flavor do you want?"

"Chocolate!" Luke grinned.

"Okay I can do that." I smiled as I went and got Luke and I an ice cream before we walked around outside. Luke was taking small licks off the ice cream, but I didn't say anything, it was wonderful to even see him eaing.

"So, we have to go to your old house and get your stuff out." I said.

"I-I know." Luke said.

"You'll be okay going in there, right?" I asked. Luke nodded. "Okay, just checking."

"Mhm." Luke said. We sat down in the park on one of the benches, talking aimlessly amongst ourselves when an elderly man stopped in front of us.

"Well hello sonny." He smiled at Luke.

"Hello sir." Luke smiled back.

"How are you doing this beautiful day?" He asked.

"As great as gold and better." Luke responded. "And you?"

"I'm still healthy enough." The man chuckled. "But I gotta continue on my way, see you later son."

"Bye!" Luke called.

"Who was that?" I asked

"I don't know." Luke said. "I met him one day when I went for a walk, I suppose he remembers me."

"Huh," I said. "That's nice I suppose."

"He's very nice." Luke smiled.

I let out a gasp. "Do I have competition Luke?"

"Ashton he's like a million years old." Luke laughed. "So no."

"It's so good to hear you laughing again." I smiled at Luke while his face turned red.

He looked down at his hands before back to me. "Well, it feels good to do it."

"C'mon." I said standing off the bench, I had already finished my ice cream, Luke wasn't halfway done but I wasn't about to say anything. "I said we'd meet mum at four and it's past three."

"Okay." Luke stood up and we walked down the street, hand in hand. Some people gave us dirty looks, otherwise smiled, some did nothing at all.

"Ash.." Luke mumbled beside me.

"Yeah?" I asked.

"I-I can't finish it.." Luke said as he held out the ice cream cone, Luke had just reached the cone. Understanding that Luke's stomach had shrunk so he couldn't eat a lot, I took it and ate the rest myself.

We finally got back to Luke's house and got my surprise he walked in without a problem. There were already a lot of boxes and we went to Luke's room where we started putting things in boxes.

"So are we just going to carry it to my house?" I asked.

"Um..No there's uh, there's a truck outside." Luke said.

"Oh that'll be helpful." I smiled. Spending the next few hours helping Luke load boxes into a small moving truck. Eventually my mother walked over, a look of dismay and happiness on her face, an odd combination.

"You ready Luke?" She asked.

Luke sighed, looking back at the house quickly before looking to my mother and nodding.

"Did you tell him?" My mother asked, Luke shook his head. "Well, go ahead."

Luke walked up to me, nervously chewing on his lip.

"Is-Is something wrong?" I asked.

"Ashton I'm not going to live with you," Luke said quietly.

"W-Where are you going?" I asked. Suddenly nervous.

"A foster care, a few cities away." Luke said. "It's about a six hour drive."

"Wait..You're leaving?" I squeaked, my eyes burning with salty tears.

"Ashton I'm sorry." Luke said, taking another step to me. "Just until I turn eighteen."

"You-You're leaving me.." I mumbled. "L-Luke you promise you wouldn't!"

"Ashton I know but I don't have a choice." Luke said. I wiped my eyes furiously but couldn't stop the flow of tears. "Ash, it's not that long."

I didn't say anything, just bit down on my quivering lip.

"Ashton.." Luke mumbled. He took another step towards me but I took one away.

"Please don't." I choked.

Luke let out a shaky breath. "Okay."

I turned my head back to Luke's stricken expression. "Good luck wherever, you're going."

"I-I love y-you." Luke said quietly.

"I know." I mumbled and walked away, past my mother with my arms folded.

"Ashton please!" My mother sighed. "Don't be so irrational."

I stopped and turned around. "Goodbye Luke."

"Bye Ashy.." Luke mumbled, tears strolling down his face. I couldn't look anymore so I ran back to my house.

I locked myself away in my room, laid in my bed, feeling alone. Feeling dumb. Feeling played.

And feeling my Luke missing. Either way, I would've lost him. It was pointless to try. But maybe it was worth it, because I wouldn't have changed anything. If getting out of that house would help him, even if it meant I lost him, then that's the way it would be. Anything for him to be okay.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but for every thought of Luke finding someone else, someone better, never settles.

It was going to be a long time before I saw Luke again, if ever.
