PACE FORTY: Selfishness

“A-ah, y-yes...” I just mumbled, putting some rice on my plate.

“He’s quite charming if you ask me, Amey...” her stepmother commented while staring at me.

Is she really talking to Amey? Or me...?

My gaze just kept on shifting from her and the food on the table...

I don’t think my heart would settle down any minute now...

Although, hearing her commend my appearance like that kind of makes me feel embarrass, but I forced myself not to show any emotion.

But having both of her parents in front of me feels so uneasy, really...

Even with a hungry stomach, I’m not sure if I can eat a lot with this set up.

“I think you just caught a big fish, Amey. Even if he’s a Hayprinian, I’m not against him at all.” her stepmother added, now finally looking at her direction. “To add, he’s a heroic young man.” she tittered.

“Carmel, does that mean you’re giving them your blessing already?” Uncle Arlon asked at his wife while slicing the steak on his plate.

“Well, in general, I’m not against to any guy she introduces to us, as long as she truly loves him and that he’ll make her happy...”

“One thing I want to reveal to all of you...” Uncle Arlon said, putting down the small knife on the side of his plate. “I don’t like Rieshay for Amey, but I’m not against this guy, either. I’ve known him as a kind young man even when we were still at the Kilick’s dimension, so I know, he won’t hurt her.”

Um, wait a minute here... Why are we talking about this topic...?

Did Amey and Riexel tell them a whole lot about me already?

“Really, Father?!” Riexel asked with a wide smile. “I’m so happy for the both of them already! I like Winter as a Big brother, too!”

Err...

They sure are talking about us like we’re not here...

But then again, hearing them say those positive words fill my heart with happiness and relief.

I took a glance at Amey and saw her looking down at the food on her plate while having such red cheeks. She’s just busying herself with eating, but her face says that she clearly heard all of what they just said.

Starting to feel comfortable by the passing seconds, I ate to my heart’s content, having some small talk with them from time to time.

It felt nice to be with them...

After eating, I mentioned about going back to Haypri as soon as possible, but Uncle Arlon forced me to stay there for the rest of the day, saying I should just leave tomorrow morning.

I don’t know why, but for a second, it felt like he’s trying to give me some more time to spend with Amey...

Since we coudn’t think of anything else to do, Amey just turned their television on and watched a drama.

I’m not actually into dramas, so I just sat on the long sofa with her, resting my head and back on it.

It felt so nice and comfy...

Upon closing my eyes, someone suddenly moved close to me and leaned her head on my right shoulder.

I know it was her, because she’s the one sitting at my right...

Without opening my eyes, I slowly put my arm around her back.

And for almost a minute, we stayed like that, savoring that moment until someone disturbed it.
