TWELVE – Separate

Sayoko couldn’t help but feel concern over Kise. It seems that he’s hyperventilating as they walked to school. He couldn’t stay calm as today is examination day for the midterms. Even though she tried to console him, he still couldn’t help but feel nervous. He feels like he hasn’t prepared enough.

“Relax, Kise. You’ve done all that you can,” Sayoko tells him constantly. This is very out of character for Sayoko, but if this is the only thing she could do to calm him down, so be it.

“Oh my god, Sayokocchi. I forgot half the formulas I memorized! And… and… I couldn’t remember the Japanese eras anymore,” Kise says worryingly.

“J-Just… Before you start, write down everything you can remember. It’ll prevent you from forgetting everything,” she continues to remind him. However, she reduced the act as they came closer to school. She walked a bit farther away from him, but she still continued to calm him down.

Sayoko stops in her tracks, with Kise following her actions. “Is there anything that’ll help you calm down?” she asked, though a bit irritated.

He looks at her for a good three seconds before saying anything. “Hug me~” he whines, and extends his arms. Sayoko simply walks away from the blond model.

There are five subjects during the course of the day – Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Japanese History, and English. The day was doomed for a storm of mathematical formulas, chemical formulas, of whether adenine was paired up with thymine or cytosine or guanine, of what did who exist, and how to not pronounce an ‘l’ with an ‘r’.

Sayoko, for the first time, was nervous for a test. And no; not because she would mess up. She was pretty confident with her own academic knowledge, frankly speaking. She was nervous for Kise. But, she was sure that he could ace that test with his eyes closed.

She was nervous for Kise, but not entirely sure what it was.

She could only wonder if he could answer the very question she was answering.

Exams were over, and the rush of students at the hallways deserved a better description than ‘suffocating’. She wanted to go to Kise’s classroom and ask how it went. As she was finding her way through the flood of students, someone pulls her by her jacket and drags her to an empty classroom.

She was ready to smack that retard who almost stripped her, whether it was Kise, Kuroko or even Aomine. Instead, she turns around and sees the red-headed president standing behind her.

“Akashi-kun?” she mouthed, yet no voice came out.

“Kasumi, sorry for the interruption,” Akashi starts to talk, speaking as if almost stripping her off was absolutely no big deal. Maybe it was; it was just her jacket. “But I needed to talk to you. Are you busy at the moment?”

“No, not at all. Continue,” Sayoko replied, even though she was dying to know how Kise went through with his exams.

“Remember the meeting that I talked about a few days ago? About the amendment of the rules and regulations of the school? I realized that it was necessary for it to be altered as soon as possible, and I would like to have that meeting today…” Akashi’s voice seemed to sound as if he was asking a favor but then he raised his eyebrow. It gave Sayoko the concrete thought that he wants it to happen as he stated. “…If that’s okay with you?”

Sayoko could only nod.

“I appreciate your cooperation with this, Kasumi. Wait at the Student Council room while I find for the others.” Akashi walks out from the classroom. Sayoko could only sigh in defeat as she checked if the hallways are not as congested as the hallways from a few minutes ago.
