It's every teenager's dream to have a job at some point, right? Well...why not start now? :P
I guess the standard 'first job' is babysitting, lawn mowing, etc. But those really aren't real jobs unless you want to run a daycare.
My first job was indeed babysitting and I realize now that it is not the job for me. Sure, at times I can have the maturity level of a little kid..but it's neccessary when babysitting :P I absolutely hate babysitting, but I don't turn a job down because I want/need the money. I go ahead and agree to it. In the summer I babysat almost every day and that was, well hell. As the kids and I got used to each other, they started to figure out how to make me mad!
I definitely prefer babysitting late at night, think of it this way an hour or two of dealing with them (watching tv!) then you get to be alone. Some of the kids, I truly miss. But others...nah, not really. That sounds horrible!
I do have some tips for applying for a job where you actually need resumes. Unless you're planning on applying at an office, skip the cover letter. I've applied to two places so far, Tim Horton's and a local restaurant (which shall not be named). I actually just applied to the local restaurant today after seeing an ad in a newspaper.
It's a cute restaurant, small too. I applied to be a waitress/server. I've even been practicing holding three plates (two in the right, one in the left).
When Applying:
It is really nerve-wracking to hand in an application or resume. I'm a big chicken and I hate going in places/stores alone. But the people are normally very nice.
Tip #1: Do not under any circumstance ask to hand in your resume. Say "I'd like to hand in my resume please". It shows that you're a lot more confident.
Tip #2: Apply somewhere that interests you. If you hate children, don't apply for a daycare! Choose somewhere you know you will enjoy.
Composing a Resume:
People find this very hard, for me it took quite some researching until I found a question on Yahoo!Answers. The person said to section it off into personal skills, education, volunteer work and experience. I also got my dear mother to pick up someone's resume from her work to use as an example. This helped a lot. It's actually quite easy to compose a resume.
FINAL TIP: Make sure you research your job! Like for waitressing/waiting you want to know how to hold the trays, plates, etc. It helps A LOT if you have some knowledge of what you'll be doing :)
Good luck! :)
