I didn't dare breathe.
How nice to be in this position again. Except this time, I wasn't so sure I would make it out alive.
The coolness of metal rested on my throat and if I even so much as twitched, he could jerk his hand and kill me.
So I stayed there. Silent. Watching. Waiting.
Wondering why this was happening to me.
I looked at Carter. Fury filled his eyes as he glared at my captor.
I felt his warm breath on my neck. Tickling me. Almost like a kiss.
His heartbeat thrummed under his jacket.
His breathing almost calmed me.
But I didn't dare to breathe.
Not until I knew what was happening.
Not until I knew he wouldn't slide the knife over my throat without a second thought.
Not until I knew what he wanted.
I looked into Carter's eyes. And reminded myself not to drown in their despair.
And to not breathe.
The knife was so close to my throat that if I breathed
I'd die.
