Day Ten of Fictober on Tumblr!

****************

I paced up and down the hallway, trying to hold myself together. I was in the middle of nowhere in a snowy SHIELD base, with no idea where my boyfriend or most of my friends were, or even if they were alive. Hydra had just revealed themselves within SHIELD, and now most agents were either traitors or dead.

Grant, my boyfriend, had been on his way to the Fridge to lock away John Garrett, his long time mentor-turned-traitor. Coulson needed me to stay and help deal with the fallout at the Hub, so I'd said goodbye to Grant as he got on the jump jet and I hadn't heard from him since.

I was starting to lose my mind, I was so worried about him.

Coulson, thankfully, understood what I was going through. He was giving me some space to collect myself, and I promised I'd be ready to go when he needed me. I was doing my best to keep that promise, but I was having a seriously hard time. I just wanted to know Grant was alive, and then I could go from there.

Right on cue, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Grant, and I didn't even read the message before sagging with relief. This, at the very least, meant he was alive enough to send a text. I took a few deep breaths, then read his message.

Meet me at our safehouse. One hour.

I read and reread the text, expecting to find more but coming up with nothing. That was it? Seriously?

I'd definitely been hoping for more, but if that was all I had to go on, then there was nothing I could do about it. I shot him back a quick response, grabbed my jacket, gun, and motorcycle, and then I was out the door after a quick wave to Coulson. If Grant kept his message that short and was calling our secret, emergency safehouse into use, then this must be something pretty serious. There was no time to waste.

It took me slightly longer than an hour to make it to the safehouse, since I was coming from the middle of nowhere in Canada, but I didn't go more than ten minutes over. I hid my motorcycle outside and kept one hand on my gun as I entered, just in case someone had followed Grant here or something. When I walked in, however, I didn't find anything out of place. Just my boyfriend pacing in the living room.

Grant stopped abruptly when I came in and turned to face me.

"Y/N." His face was white as a sheet as he closed the distance between us and pulled me in for a quick hug.

"Grant, what's going on?" I asked, trying to read his expression as he pulled away. He put his hands on my shoulder and met my eyes with an intense gaze, and it was seriously starting to freak me out. I never saw him look like this.

"I did something, I... you need to know about this. I'm not supposed to tell you—I'm not supposed to tell anyone—but you need to know." I didn't say anything, I just shook my head a little and braced for the worst. What the hell was he talking about? "I'm Hydra."

I blinked a few times, but Grant just kept staring at me, apparently completely serious. My mind understood the different words he'd said individually, but when I tried to understand them together they just didn't make sense.

He'd said he was Hydra. There was no way my boyfriend was Hydra.

"Grant, what the hell are you talking about?" I demanded, pushing his arms away and taking a few steps back. "If this is your idea of some kind of joke, or if this is a setup for something else-"
