"Morning!" Ink yelled with a grin to Cross, who was now approaching the door to the studio that Ink was unlocking.

"Don't shout..." Cross groaned.

"Why?"

Cross glared at him.

"What's up, Cross? You look a little off." Phoenix asked.

"Hungover." He muttered.

"What was that? We couldn't hear you." Ink teased.

"I'm hungover." He repeated loud enough for Phoenix to hear, "Ink, please, unlock that goddamn door, it's too cold for this bullshit."

"I thought you liked the cold?"

"I don't feel great, fuck off." He hissed.

Once the door was unlocked, the three boys entered, Cross having pushed the other two aside to get in first.

"When's Ashley getting here?" Ink asked.

"No idea. Told her to be in by nine like the rest of us." Phoenix replied before shouting over his shoulder, "Cross, I need a tattoo gun when you come back in, this is the broken one."

"Get it yourself!" He growled back from the other room.

"You're literally the closest!"

Cross stormed back in, holding said tattoo gun, slamming it on the chair in front of Phoenix.

"Careful with that!" He hissed as Cross went to leave again.

For the next fifteen minutes, Cross didn't come back while Ink and Phoenix prepared the studio for opening at nine thirty. Eventually Ink decided that Cross should be helping, too, so went to retrieve him.

"Come on then, idiot. Get out here." He commanded as he burst into the room. Cross was laying on the sofa, typing on his phone.

"Yeah, one second."

"What, you telling Nightmare how 'last night was a mistake'?" He grinned.

"No. For the record, nothing happened. He went home."

"That's probably for the best." Ink snickered. Cross, however was not amused as he kept his eyes on his screen, unblinking.

"No, what are you actually doing, though?"

"Doesn't matter."

"What is it?"

"Sorry," He sighed, "It's my mom, she said that the doctors said that, um..." He broke off and pinched the bridge of his nose, "There's been no change, and, um... Yeah."

"Aw, buddy, I'm really sorry," Ink sighed, walking over and sitting next to him, "It's not your fault, or anyone's fault besides A-"

"I'm done with playing the blame game," Cross cut him off, sitting up, "I'm not sure it is easier to have someone to blame in every circumstance. There are about five different people I could blame, but none of them ever meant for this to happen. Honestly, the biggest factor is myself, but-"

"Cross-"

"-but it's not exactly my fault."

"Of course it's not. You never asked for this."

"What am I going to do if Chara doesn't make it?" He asked suddenly, his glazing over, "I mean, my mom's gonna hate me. She does want someone to blame. And, I... Chara's... he's hard to deal with, but... his annoyingness, his loudness, his persistence to get what he wants... I'd take a lifetime of that over a lifetime without him." He finished with a shaky sigh.
