breath

fogs up glass

the way yours is

right now

your forehead

pressed against

the window

that could let you

out of this cage

he's not here

tonight

away on business

for a month

it's the second day

without him

and it's already

unbearable

the sash

goes up

softly so that the

servants don't hear

bare feet

on a windowsill

it's high enough

that you could

die from the fall

if you didn't die

from the medicine

they gave you after to

fix your hurts

teetering

a gentle breeze could

blow you off

is this what you want

he is kind enough

reminds you of

yourself

in too many ways to count

but that's not what

matters

what matters is that

love cannot be

forced

that is what you

believe in

so you close your eyes

and then you hear

a voice

from below

you're caught

but you haven't seen

this person before

a beautiful

face

staring up at you

"don't jump"

he gives reason

after reason

but in the end

it's his eyes

that make you

climb down

to the ground

a smile

passed between

two people

in the darkness

in the moonlight

"you won't tell?"

"it'll be our

secret"

a finger pressed

over pink lips

as he turns away

maybe that was when

you fell in love

or maybe when he

looked back

and smiled

"i would like

to see you again"
