skin

and sweat stained

clothes

bright yellows

oranges

blues

greens

vermilion

indigo

dark hair

and darker

eyes

skin

tanned from

the sun

yet smooth

wrists

adorned

in golden

bangles

rings

on fingers

and on

toes

weary smiles

as dust

kicked up

by cars

fills the

roads

smog

livestock

roaming

as if the

world is their

home

because

it is

papers

tossed out of

windows

to goats

banana skins

stripped

completely

of their flavor

spices

aromas

sandalwood

dark henna

in flowering

designs

over wrists

fingers

hands

feet

there is

beauty

in culture

though it took me

too long

to realize it

there is beauty

in the working

hands

and embroidered

cloth

and the people

that fill the towns

and villages

they are their own

little world

and they are

proud

of it
