time

flies

like a

falcon

or an

eagle

maybe

perhaps a

sparrow

just yesterday

it was

long grasses

and

bright sunlight

and

swimming

in pools

ponds

lakes

oceans

but the falcon

dove

the eagle

soared

the sparrow

hopped

from one branch

to the next

and everything

changed

again

the trees are

glowing red

in afternoon

sunlight

red

orange

and gold

leaves

litter the

streets

the way

california

gold

did in '49

it's

sweater

season

where boys

and girls

beg for

extra marshmallows

in their cocoa

and peppermint

sticks

are just beginning

to be sold

it's a time of

nostalgia

it's a time of

warmth

even though

the days are

growing short

and the weather

is growing cool

with it comes

the first rain

the first snow

pitter patter

on your roof

softly

lulling you

to sleep

it's a time of

beauty

brief beauty

before the

leaves fall

and the

branches are

barren

once again

and the

ground

turns to mush

below your

boots

the wind

sweeps

the leaves

across the path

across the world

and as you

crunch one

under your foot

you remember

sunlight

streaming through

branches

onto a

pile of leaves

screams of joy

as children

jump in

you among them

once

and you wonder

why

in such a

beautiful time

you feel

so

sad
