California was laying in bed. It was just one of those nights that try as you may you can't fall asleep. After an hour or so it was clear he wasn't sleeping.
He sighed, and reached to his bedside table for his current read.
It was about a lady who lost her memory and has to live in an organization with powered people while keeping up the act that she remembers everything and finding her attempted killer.
He flipped through the pages and found the spot where he left off.
It had been quite a few chapters later when he heard faint chords being strummed from down the hall

He continues reading, thinking it's just his mind playing tricks in him.

And then the singing starts

I don't really give a damn about the way you touch me
When we're alone

You can hold my hand
If no one's home

Do you like it when I'm away?

If I went and hurt my body, baby
Would you love me the same?

California stopped and listened, putting his book down.

I can feel all my bones coming back
And I'm craving motion
Mama never really learns how to live by herself
It's a curse
And it's growing
You're a pond and I'm an ocean
Oh, all my emotions
Feel like explosions when you are around
And I've found
A way to kill the sounds, oh

Who was behind this amazing voice? Why the fuck were they singing at- four in the...oh it's already four in the morning...damn..but still! Not that he really minded listening to it, it was unbelievably good, but whoever it was should really be sleeping. He wondered if he should follow the sound..

Oh, baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you
I need you here to stay
I broke all my bones that day I found you
Crying at the lake
Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden?
Oh, and if I could take it all back
I swear that I would pull you from the tide

California's curiosity getting the better of him, he crept out of bed and towards the door, going after the heavenly mystery voice.

Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa
I said no (I said no), I said no (I said no)
Listen close, it's a no

He tiptoed down the hall quietly, inching closer towards the sound.
Wait...he really didn't need to be quiet seeing as the singing was already quite loud.

The wind is a-pounding on my back
And I found hope in a heart attack
Oh at last, it is past
Now I've got it, and you can't have it

California was facing Texas's door.
He had found the source of the sound.
So he was the one singing do damn early. Didn't really peg him as the not sleeping type.

Baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you
I need you here to stay
I broke all my bones that day I found you
Crying at the lake
Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden, oh
And if I could take it all back
I swear that I would pull you from the tide

Cali smiled, sitting down with his back against the wall.
He closed his eyes, swaying, losing himself in the music. He wouldn't admit it, but he secretly pretended Texas was singing about him. It was stupid, he would never, but still... it's nice to pretend.

Darling, when I'm fast asleep
I've seen this person watching me
Saying, "Is it worth it? Is it worth it? Tell me, is it worth it?" Oh
Guess there is something, and there is nothing
There is nothing in between
And in my eyes, there is a tiny dancer
Watching over me, he's singing
"She's a, she's a lady, and I am just-"

The song stopped suddenly, and Texas chuckles

"Guess that's not quite right huh..I should change that"

He hums for a bit

"It's....a bit cringy...but it works....I guess."

Watching over me, he's singing
"He's my, he's my poppy"

Texas stops again, laughing in embarrassment

"Jeez this is bad.."

He's singing, "He's my, he's my poppy, and I am just a line without a hook"

Poppy..? California couldn't help but to grin, a warm fuzzy feeling flooding through him.

Baby, I am a wreck when I'm without you
I need you here to stay

I broke all my bones that day I found you
Crying at the lake
Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden, oh
And if I could take it all back
I swear that I would pull you from the tide

He hugged himself, unable to supress the grin on his face, undeniably happy. He knew in the back of his mind, he probably meant someone else. Or that it didn't mean anything, but that didn't stop him from going about the next day smile on his face and new pep in his step, despite being utterly exausted.
