Tara

The morning after we returned home from Dado's house, I couldn't find Zain after breakfast.

"Bhabi, have you seen Zain?" I asked Lamisa Bhabi, who I'd met in the hallway as she was about to head upstairs.

"Yes, he was washing the car outside." She replied.

"He washes his own car?" I blurted out. "Doesn't he have fifteen people to do that for him?"

I know I was being stereotypical, but can I be blamed?

I headed out of the house and saw Zain scrubbing the back end of the car with a rag. He didn't notice me come out, so I sneaked up to him, grabbed the sponge that was inside the bucket full of soapy water, and threw it at him. He turned around at such an angle that it hit him right in the backside. Initially my eyes widened as he straightened up and looked over his shoulder, but then I started giggling uncontrollably. "Not my intended target, but wah, Tara!" I praised myself.

*Wah: wow!

"You need to be taught a lesson." He grabbed the hose.

"No!" I shook my head, backing away. "Zain! Don't you dare!"

I squealed as he aimed it at me. I got a little soaked before I ran around to the other side of the car. He dropped the house and chased after me.

"Get back here, you little troublemaker!" He grinned.

In one of the major coincidences of the universe, we both slipped on the water at the same time. He reached out and steadied himself against the car, his arms on either side of me. His very impressive arms. His dark blue shirt was soaked, clinging onto his torso and I fought to keep my eyes away. Love or not, I cannot deny how attractive he was. I'm only human, for God's sake!

"Tara." He said, almost huskily.

"Hmm?" I was mesmerised by his gaze.

"I told you that I'd retaliate your cheekiness." He winked, before pulling back and showing me the sponge in his hand. I was too stunned to move as he squeezed it and then dropped it, rubbing his soapy hands against my cheeks.

"You will pay for this." I narrowed my eyes at him.

"You started this." He reminded me. "Sponge against my a**, and all that."

We both laughed and I shook my head.

"Sahab Ji, water." A servant's voice made us look up.

*Sahab Ji: Mister/Sir.

Zain turned and I looked down at my wet clothes that were sticking to my body. I quickly covered myself with my dupatta. Zain seemed to realise that because he stepped slightly in front of me, blocking me from the view of the male servant. "Set it down there and you can go. Thank you."

Making sure that the servant had left, he turned back around.

"Thank you." I told him, genuinely. "Confident or not, some situations don't make me very comfortable."

"You don't need to thank me." He replied, with a small smile. "It's my duty to protect you and your dignity."

My heart beat just a little bit faster at his words. "I guess you kind of are a bit of a gentleman..."
