Eve knocked on the door. No answer came. She tried the knob, but it was locked. She cursed to herself, grabbing her lock picks. She sucked at picking locks. She always had. She'd tried, but could never quite get it.
After a few moments of fiddling with the lock, Eve gave up and kicked the door open.
Cora's apartment was empty.
"Cora? Are you here?" Eve called out. No response came. She checked the bedroom, but it was empty. There was no one in the apartment.
Eve opened the back door, entering the alley. It was similarly empty. Eve was about to go back inside when she saw something white on the ground. She picked it up. It was a torn strip of cloth. It could have come from Cora's shirt. Most concerning, however, was the bloodstain on the ground next to it. Eve touched it. It was fresh, still wet. She narrowed her eyes. Clearly Cora wasn't gone of her own will. Eve could only think of one person who might have captured her.
