Chapter Twenty-Three: Catacombs

"Cora, are you sure about this? The catacombs are a dangerous place. You could fend off one demon, but the catacombs are overrun with Darkness." Cora smiled sympathetically.
"Someone has to fix the Obex." The white hallway was disturbing. Eve followed Cora closely. They walked in silence for many minutes. The tunnels got darker.
"Cora, wait." Eve sounded out of breath. Cora remembered that she didn't have her own divine light protecting her from the Dark. Cora turned around. Eve stumbled forward and fell. Cora caught her. She pressed a button on the wall before laying Eve against the wall.
"Don't worry. I called the paramedics. Rest now. I can take it from here. I'm the only one who can do this." Cora stood, looking out at the cavern. The Obex sat behind a wall of darkness. Cora looked back, smiling sadly.
"I'll see you on the other side, Eve Karpos. It's been nice." Cora pressed a kiss to Eve's cheek before facing the darkness before her.
