Chapter Thirty: Fog

"Two coffees, please." The barista was old, looking curious.
"Who're the flowers for?" Eve smiled slightly.
"My girlfriend." The barista returned her smile.
"You're lucky, you know. In my day, girls couldn't have girlfriends. Being able to openly admit to that...we've come a long way." The barista handed the coffees to Eve, who smiled.
"Yeah. I am lucky."
Eve walked slowly. She looked at the cemetery gates before her and smiled sadly for a moment before turning, making her way back to the lakeside cabin. The morning air was cool, and a light fog hung in the air.
As expected, the dock wasn't empty. Eve sat down next to Cora, handing her a coffee. Cora smiled gratefully before returning her gaze to the lake.
"Thanks, Eve. I owe you one." Eve put her hand over Cora's on her lap, giving her a gentle kiss.
"You owe me nothing."
