The second Quinjet lifts off the helipad of the Avenges tower, flying towards what could either be a new age or humanity's doom. Whichever, both would lead to unfortunate casualties.

The air feels unbearably thinner tonight, maybe it was because we were so high up but after what just happened, I knew why.

It was a good thing I took off on the second jet, otherwise I'd be stuck in the same tiny space as him when I could barely look him in the eye.

"You know I can't."

I shut my eyes, trying to block out any thoughts of his words as I sit pitifully alone at the back, my elbows on my knees while avoiding any opportunity to converse with anyone.

Only now I realized that there is a line drawn between the past and the future.

"How can an assassin ever be happy?"

And we crossed it.

"You deserve better."

No. I don't.

"I love you, more than you'll ever know."

I didn't deserve a damn thing.

The aircraft comes to a stop, assuming we've already landed on Sokovia grounds. Clint opens the back and shuts the engine off as half of the team including Nat, and the twins gather together to await the Captain's call.

"Ultron knows we're coming." Steve speaks through the earpiece. "Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire, and that's what we signed up for. But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So our priority is getting them out."

Although my mind is far from my senses, I'm trying to hold it together as best as I can. No more backing out now. The people need help. The world needs saviors. The Avengers are made for this. I should be too.

"All they want is to live their lives in peace, and that's not going to happen today. But we can do our best to protect them. And we can get the job done, and find out what Ultron's been building. We find it and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him. It's about whether he's right."

Pietro dashes out of the plane first while the rest of us run to our respective locations to evacuate the city as fast as we could, the other half of the team doing the same on the other side of the city.

The younger twin and I were together. Though I still hold a small grudge against Wanda, I was sure impressed at the level of her abilities can do. Not only can she control things with her mind, she used them to get people swiftly out too.

Meanwhile I guided others beside her, checking every house near us and making sure everyone got out safely. No one left behind.

A baby's cry echoed in the air as one mother tried to calm them down in her arms. With no success I personally walked up to her with a smile.

"Here, maybe I can help." I gently place my hand on the baby's fragile head, putting him to sleep soundly for everyone's own good. She thanks me and embraces her child closer, continuing her way with the crowd.
