Switched Chapter 10

Chapter 10: Pretend

"Alleira, my daughter."

Sabay kaming napalingon ni Vince sa likod namin nang marinig doon ang boses ni Mommy. Vince and I were about to went inside his car after the wedding to go home when my mother came.

"Mom." I said as an acknowledgement.

Tipid lang akong ngumiti at hinarap si Mommy. My Mom immediately went to me and hugged me tightly like she missed me so much, what an act. Pagkatapos niya akong yakapin ay ngumiti siya ng matamis at tumitig sa mga mata ko.

I simply averted my gaze, scared that she might notice the difference between my eyes and Alleira's.

"Congratulations my daughter. I'm happy for you." Masuyong ika ni Mommy.

I can't even differentiate her fake smile to a real one. She's really good in pretending that even someone who knows her really well can be fooled.

"Thank you, Mom." I also smiled before glancing at my Dad behind her.

Napalingon ako kay Vince na nasa tabi ko lang nang dumating rin ang mga parents niya. They are smiling really wide while their walking towards Vince. Niyakap rin si Vince ng Mama niya at ang Papa niya naman ay tinapik lang ang balikat niya as a sign of congratulating him.

"Let's celebrate later!" Si Mrs. Callahan sabay lingon sa amin.

My lips parted because of shock when Mrs. Callahan suddenly hugged me!

"Congratulations, hija." She whispered to me before moving away.

Napatikhim tuloy ako ng wala sa oras dahil sa gulat! That hug shocked me one big time!

"Let's have a lunch together. Hindi nalang dinner dahil alam naman namin ang gagawin niyo mamayang gabi." Makahulugang ika ni Mrs. Callahan or should I say Mama because that's what she wanted me to call her.

My cheeks flushed because of embarassment when I realized the hidden meaning in her words. Damn it! Is she talking about the honeymoon? As if we'll do that? That will never happen for goodness sake!

"So where are we going to have lunch?" Si Mommy.

"Just follow us, we know a good place to celebrate this meaningful event." Mrs. Callahan winked at us before kissing her son's cheek which made Vince groan.

Naglakad na ang dalawang parents ni Vince papunta sa sasakyan nila at doon ko lang napansing kanina pa pala kami tahimik ni Vince dito at nakatayo lang. Kahit sila Mommy at Daddy ay papunta na rin sa sasakyan nila.

I cleared my throat to get his attention. He immediately looked at me like he's waiting for me to say something.

"U-Uhm... l-let's go?" I asked awkwardly before looking at his car.

What his mother said earlier brings up an awkward atmosphere between us. Iyong tungkol sa honeymoon. Well, we shouldn't be affected by that because we both know that we won't do that pero hindi ko alam kung bakit sa tuwing sumasagi iyon sa isip ko ay dumudumi ang utak ko, shit!

This is wrong! I should avoid thinking about him hovering on top of me because that is insane, perfectly insane! Alam kong hindi iyon mangyayari at imposible iyong mangyari kaya dapat ay pigilan ko na ang sarili ko sa pag-iisip ng ganoon ngayon palang!

We we're silent for the whole ride. Nakatutok lang ang seryosong tingin niya sa sinusundan naming sasakyan habang ako naman ay nakatingin lang sa labas ng bintana. Hindi ko alam kung ilang beses na akong bumuntong-hininga dito dahil sa pagkabagot!

I tried playing with my phone, scrolling through my social media but it didn't helped me a bit! Mas nabored lang ako at kulang nalang ay kalikutin ko ang mga bagay dito sa sasakyan ngayon.
