Chapter 23: Drunk

I saw how his eyes slowly widened because of seeing me. His lips protruded a bit and his jaw clenched making my breath hitched.

Umatras ako at humigpit ang hawak sa sling ng bag na dala. The door of the elevator was about to closed but we're just standing there looking at each other with widened eyes!

Nang eksaktong magsasara na ang pinto ng elevator ay doon ko lang nagawang igalaw ang mga paa ko! Agad akong humakbang paatras at tumakbo papalayo doon.

I heard him cursed harshly as the door of the elevator closed infront of him. Dali-dali akong tumakbo papalabas ng lobby at sumakay sa sasakyan. My breathing is ragged and my heart is beating ferociously because of nervousness!

Nang pinaandar ko ang sasakyan ko ay eksakto namang tumunog ang phone ko sa bag. Sa nanginginig na kamay ay kinuha ko 'yun.

Fuck, Vince saw me! He fucking saw me! Damn it!

"Tita, why?" I asked my Auntie after I answered the call as I calmed myself.

"Have you seen the news right now?"

"News? What news?" Kunot-noong tanong ko at tuluyan ng kumalma ng makalayo na sa kompaniyang 'yun.

I don't know that Vince is there! I was going to visit James and I unexpectedly saw him in the most unexpected place!

"Isesend ko sayo," si Tita bago pinatay ang tawag.

I parked my car at the side of the road when my phone beeped for a message. Binuksan ko 'yung picture na sinend ni Tita at nanlaki ang mga mata ko nang makita 'yun!

It's me! It's a news about me coming to the exhibition that night. May mga pictures rin ako doon pero mabuti nalang ay hindi nakuha ang buong mukha ko dahil bahagya akong nakayuko. Ang isang maayos lang na picture na nakuhanan sa akin ay 'yung nakasuot ako ng maskara.

Isn't this a good thing? Atleast my face aren't that clearly seen.

Itinago ko na ang phone ko sa bag at napatitig na lang sa harap. I'm looking infront while I'm in daze for a few seconds before I slightly banged my head to the steering wheel.

"Nakita niya ako..." I murmured to myself as I leaned my head against the steering wheel of my car.

I don't know if Vince saw my face clearly earlier but the way his eyes widened because of shock, I know that he saw me, he saw my face clearly. Damn, I should have just caged myself inside my condo! Hindi na lang sana ako lumabas!

"I know you don't want your face to be seen in an international news so it's still a good thing that they don't have a perfect capture of your face in that news." Bungad agad sa akin ni Tita pagkapasok ko ng condo.

I nodded at her as a sign of agreement. Pasalampak akong umupo sa sofa katabi ni Tita at marahas na tinanggal ang flats na suot. Napahilot rin ako sa paa habang nakikibasa sa news na binabasa ni tita.

"You're on the headline." Si Tita.

"Yeah, and it's because of that 3 million bid of Vin---Mr. Callahan." I cleared my throat.

Tita Veron chuckled, "Hindi ko inexpect na may magbibid ng ganu'n kalaki sa painting mo."

"Me too." I said and looked at my Auntie when I remembered something. "Tita, can you meet Mr. Callahan on behalf of me?"

She frowned, "Bakit ako? Hindi ba't ikaw naman talaga ang nakikipagmeet sa mga gustong bumili ng painting mo?"

"I-It's just because I have something more important to attend to in that same day I'm going to meet him. So, please..."
