(Third POV) a few days later / Hospital.

"Okay, keep pressure on it. The doctor is on her way," Melissa instructs the woman being hurried into the hospital. She turns, calling out, "And does anyone know where Dr. Hilyard is?" Then, she steps aside to let the paramedic wheel the woman into a nearby emergency room. Spotting Scott at the entrance, she sighs, and as he approaches, he hands her a bag of food.

"Oh, thank God! I'm starving," Melissa exclaims, eagerly snatching the food from Scott's hands. When she sees Scott raising his eyebrows in surprise, she softly chuckles. "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Thank you for bringing me dinner," she adds, her smile innocent. Scott furrows his brows, looking around in confusion. "Is everything okay?" he asks, concerned. Melissa sighs and nods slightly. "Except for half the accident victims in a ten-car pile-up being rerouted here from downtown, and the ER attending not answering any of his pages... Yeah, I'm okay," she replies, prompting a nod of understanding from Scott.

"What does not answering pages mean?" Scott inquires, prompting another sigh from Melissa. "It means that nobody can find him, so now we have to wait for the on-call to get here," she explains. Just then, a patient interjects, "Miss?" catching Melissa's attention.

"Yes?" Melissa responds, tearing her attention away from her son. "Excuse me, can I please have something for the pain?" the woman requests, eliciting a sad shake of the head from Melissa. "Okay, I'm sorry, I know, but actually, giving you something could complicate things, so we really just need to wait for the doctors, okay?" Melissa attempts to reassure her, prompting the patient to reluctantly nod.

"Yeah..." the patient responds sadly. "Okay, how much longer on Dr. Hilyard?" Melissa calls out again to a nearby nurse. "Ten minutes," the nurse answers. Without any hesitation, Scott seats himself next to the woman, his expression furrowed with concern as he observes the pain she's experiencing.

"Uh, you know, I think that I read online that sometimes human contact can help with the pain..." Scott suggests, making the woman nod sadly. Without hesitation, he gently grasps her hands, and a serene expression crosses his face as he absorbs her pain, offering her immediate relief. She feels the pain dissipate and gazes at Scott, a grateful smile spreading across her face. Though she doesn't understand how it's working, she doesn't question it, simply appreciating the comfort it brings.

Suddenly, Ethan bursts into the emergency room, cradling Danny in his arms. Scott springs to his feet at the sight. "Someone! Someone help me!" Ethan's voice echoes urgently through the room. "I need help!" he cries out again, his panic evident in his frantic pleas.

(Third POV) Car Hilyard

"It's Dr. Hilyard again. Can you let Melissa know that it may be more than ten minutes? I think there's an accident up ahead," Dr. Hilyard explains urgently over the phone, her gaze fixed on the cars ahead with a frown. "Yeah, a ten-car pile-up, which is why we need you here!" the nurse responds incredulously. "I'm going as fast as I can," Dr. Hilyard replies, frustration evident as she honks at the cars obstructing her path.

(Third POV) Hospital

"Okay, gentle! Gentle! Gentle!" Melissa urges as Ethan carefully places Danny onto a hospital bed. "What did you do to him?" Scott demands of Ethan, his voice rising with concern, prompting a frown from Ethan. "Nothing! He said he was having chest pains and trouble breathing, but it just kept getting worse..." Ethan explains, causing Melissa to furrow her brow in worry.
