"Time!" Harris called after a few minutes. "If you've catalyzed the reaction correctly, you should now be looking at a crystal," Harris said. Ours was a crystal. "Now for the part of that last experiment I'm sure you'll all enjoy... You can eat it."

Lydia looked back at me. I shook my head. She rolled her eyes and took the crystal.

"Lydia!" Scott called suddenly, standing up.

"What?"

"Nothing," he said quietly, sitting down.

She bit it. Nothing happened. I looked back at Erica, who smiled the same smile she had when she was going to kill me. She looked out the window. I leaned closer to it and in the lot, Derek stood there with a determined, dark expression.

Even though the test didn't work, I didn't think was her. It couldn't have been. She was too... It wasn't her. I mean, she was acting weird, but not werewolf - were-jaguar - kanima weird.

The lab ended. I followed Scott, Stiles, and Allison into an empty room.

"Derek's outside waiting," I informed.

"Waiting to kill her?" Allison responded.

"If he thinks she's the kanima, then yes," Scott said. "Especially after what happened at the pool."

"It's not her," Stiles said defensively.

"Stiles, she didn't pass the test," Scott told him sadly. "Nothing happened."

"Maybe she's immune... " I said. "To anything that has to do with the supernatural? I mean, I healed from Peter."

"That's a bit different," Scott told me.

"Well, none of it matters if Derek thinks it's her," Allison said. "So either we can convince him that he's wrong or we've got to figure out a way to protect her."

"Well, I don't think he's gonna do anything here - at school," Scott said.

"What about after school?" she questioned.

"We just need to prove that he's wrong," I said, but I hadn't an idea on how to do that.

"By three o'clock? Stiles doubted.

"There could be something in the bestiary," Allison thought.

"Oh, you mean the nine hundred-page book written in archaic Latin that none of us can read?" he remarked. "Good luck with that."

"Actually, I think I know someone who might be able to translate it," Allison said.

"Uh, I can talk to Derek," Scott said. "Maybe convince him to give us a chance to prove it's not her. But if anything happens, you guys let me handle it, okay?"

I let out a breath, sitting on the arm of the chair.

Allison crossed her arms. "What's that supposed to mean?"

"You guys can't heal like I do... " He looked at me. "You're... figuring things out. I don't want any of you getting hurt."
