Chapter 34; Moving on

Nearly two weeks had passed since that night on the balcony.

Christmas was coming up, and school was unraveling. Teachers were stressed, classrooms were looking shabby and down, students were delicious ous with boredom.

My days were filled with mock exams, essays, and equations; it was mundane but after the chaos of November, it made me feel numb, disconnected, and oddly calm.

Mina's friends liked to remind me, now and again, that it was my fault that she'd been expelled, but for the most part, they left me alone.

And with their ringleader gone, I could walk to school halls without looking constantly over my shoulder.

I tried to ignore Crescent- on the internet, on the TV, in the conversations of my classmates. But avoiding Crescent was like trying to avoid oxygen. Haknyeon must have suffered the same.

massive world tour

Exclusive interview with Crescent's Juyeon- we quiz him about dating Chaerin Hwang, being a teen icon
and more!

I didn't hate Chaerin. I didn't feel anything toward her. I just wanted her to go away. But she wouldn't, neither would Juyeon.

The group was only getting bigger, and the new year would see them embarking on the world tour. From what everyone was saying, it would complete their transformation into one of the biggest boy groups in history.

At least he would be out of the country.
As for me, fifteen minutes of fame was over; I was old news. A footnote in the gossip archive. The internet had moved on.

For me, my school had not.
"I heard Juyeon dumped her for Hwang Chaerin."
"Hwang Chaerin is super hot."
"I heard she made the whole thing up."

"Yeah, apparently she photoshopped that picture."
"That is so desperate."
"You guys wanna finish my fries...?"

Sometimes I could ride above it, block it out, like white noise on a television. At other times, though, I would reach instinctively for my phone and start writing to Changmin.

Seeing his name, I'd suddenly remembered, and my heart would start to ache. We hadn't spoken since I'd stepped off the train.

I thought about Hyunjae a lot too. The day after Johwa, he'd sent me a Facebook message; if you ever need to talk, I'm here.

I considered messaging him from time to time, or even calling him but always backed out. He might have been my friend, but he was still a member of Crescent. He was still a part of that world.

Finally, there was Juyeon. As the days went by, the time I'd spent with him began to feel like a fever dream. All those connections between Yeo's notebook, his lyrics, the memories we seemed to share, and mom.

I began to see them for what they were: coincidences. And as time passed, I hoped I would find a way to forget it all forever.

That is until one frosty evening when I received an unexpected email.
