Taehyung went to his next class and spent his break alone, thinking over and over again about everything he realized and that happened in just a few hours of his day.

He clawed at his phone with both hands as he endeavored to confine his urge to read that article. I shouldn’t, I shouldn’t, fuck, I really shouldn’t. He tossed it on the desk and ruffled his hair as a low growl emitted from his mouth by his frustration.

Just a small peek. He snatched the phone and opened Google, but then he stilled, hesitant and unsure. Maybe a tiny peek? I can’t stop thinking about it. I have to.

He typed ‘The Jeon Tragedy’ and pressed enter. Upon glimpsing at the first article, he screwed his eyes shut and even covered them with his quivery hand. He blindly taped on the screen and cracked an eye open a few seconds later, only to see an incoming call from Jeongguk.

“The timing,” he muttered with a sigh and straightened his posture as he answered the call. “Hey.”

“Hey, where are you? The break is over and you didn’t join us.”

“Oh, um, I stayed in my art class the whole time and I just went to my next class.”

Jeongguk heaved a soundless sigh as he leaned his head against the door frame, his now sullen eyes resting on the boy’s back. “Oh, you just went to your next class.”

“Yeah,” Taehyung breathed out, feeling a burst of guilt consume him.

“Did something happen?”

“No.”

“Okay. Meet me by my locker at the next break so we can go to the cafeteria together, hm?”

“Yes, okay.”

“And since we finish early today, maybe we can go for a walk or something afterwards.”

“Um, but I have three classes and you have only two.”

“It’s okay, I’ll wait for you.”

“You don’t have to—“

“I want to. Anyway, we’ll talk later.”

“Okay. Bye.” Taehyung waited until the younger said ‘bye’ as well before he hung up the phone, and he pressed his forehead against the desk, biting his lower lip hard.

“Taehyung?”

The said boy sat upright and glanced to his side, where one of his classmates was standing. “Yeah?”

“I think your friend came to see you.”

“Who?”

“Jeongguk. He was just standing by the door until a few seconds ago.”

Taehyung’s eyes swelled in surprise as he twisted his head around and exploded out of his seat, scuttling towards the door. He barely managed to spot the caramel-haired boy down the hallway, and he rubbed his face as he cursed himself mentally. He knows I lied. Why did I lie? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

He lightly smacked his forehead with his palm as he sighed on repeat, and he would continue for a while if it wasn’t for his teacher who came into his sight.

Everything was a mess, and it only had been a few hours of his day. How was that possible? He had no idea.

. . .

Taehyung slouched along the hallway after his class, his eyes riveted on his slow, heavy steps, and his fingers curled around the straps of his bag. I have to face him. I have to tell him I remember. I have to tell him about the article. I have to explain why I lied.
