Chapter 44- Avoiding them at all costs

Harper walks back into the hospital
"I'm gonna head home" Harper says grabbing her bag
"Why?" Casey asks concerned
"I need to get aria from school! I promised her" Harper says
"But Benny can get her" Gabby says softly
"I want to get my own kid from school! Is that okay!" Harper says raising her voice a little
"Yeah, you go ahead kid!" Mouch says as he smiles reassuringly at her
"Thank you!" Harper says angrily before walking out
Harper gets in her car and the tears start to pour down her face as she's driving. She gets out of the car and walks up to arias school
"Mummy!" Aria shouts as she runs over to Harper
"Hey there honey!" Harper says enthusiastically giving aria a hug
"Have you been crying?" Aria asks
"No honey! I'm fine!" Harper says smiling
"Guess what we did today!" Aria says enthusiastically
"What did you do?" Harper asks
"We watched a video on how a paramedic stops a cut from bleeding! It was so cool!" Aria says as they walk down to the car
"Woah! You will need to tell auntie Gabby that you know how to do that now!" Harper says smiling
"Now let's go get your brothers and sister" Harper says as they get into the car
It's the next morning and Harper is getting ready for work. Everyone at 51 has been given a new firehouse to work at. They are now at firehouse 7 but have the same trucks. She arrives at the firehouse and Casey spots her
"Harper?" Casey asks confused
"What?" Harper asks
"We thought you would be at the hospital" Boden says standing next to him
"I need to get my mind off it! And what's a better way than to run into fires for the next 24 hours?!" Harper says before she walks in
"Hey Herrmann?" Casey shouts
"What's up captain?" Herrmann asks walking over to them
"Look out for her today okay?" Casey says looking at Harper
"Will do captain!" Herrmann says before walking away
"Truck 81, Ambulance 61, rollercoaster accident, Summer lee Amusement park" The intercom says
They all run out and jump into their trucks. They arrive at the scene to see a man hanging onto the edge of a rollercoaster that is stuck upside down
"Amelia get the arial ready! Herrmann get me some ropes along with a harness!" Harper shouts
"Why?" Herrmann asks
"I'm going up there! Now move!" Harper shouts
Herrmann hesitates but then runs to get the ropes. Harper straps herself in and climbs up
"Hang on guys! Help is coming!" Harper shouts
Harper finally gets to the top
"What's your name?" Harper asks
"Dale!" Dale says panicking
"Hi dale im Harper! Now I need you to reach out your hand for me!" Harper says putting her hand down
"I can't!" Dale says hanging on for dear life
"Yes you can! Just reach up and I'll grab you!" Harper says
"I can't do it!" Dale says looking down
"No dale! Hey eyes on me! You can! Now come on!" Harper shouts
"I'm sorry!" Dale says before letting go
"No dale!" Harper says watching him fall to the ground
Gabby runs over to him and checks his pulse. She shakes her head and Harper watches her. Harper gets the rest of the people down and throws her helmet onto the ground when she gets down. They drive back to the firehouse and Casey watches Harper walk inside angrily
"What happened?" Casey asks
"A man was stuck in an upside down rollercoaster and all he needed to do was reach out for Harper's hand but he let go. And she's taking it pretty badly" Herrmann says
"I'll talk to her!" Casey says walking in
"Stupid CFD! We're supposed to save people!" Harper says pacing up and down in her quarters
"You okay?" Casey asks softly
"If we can't save people then what's the point on doing the job! People got that on video Casey! They posted it! There saying that I couldn't save him! That I killed him!" Harper shouts
"God! Maybe I should have left the CFD!" Harper shouts walking out
