Y/N walked into the UN facility and was greeted by Nat in the middle of the room. Dozens of agents walked around, calling and yelling over commands to secure the Winter Soldier in a cell.

"How bad is it?" she asked when she reached Nat and they walked up together.

"Not as bad as you," she remarked, taking note of the bags under Y/N's eyes, slumber posture, prominent frown lines and droopy eyes, "Did you even get any sleep last night?" she pushed a door open and they entered a large office which was divided by strong glass walls into smaller ones.

"Not a wink," she adjusted her glasses, in attempt to hide the dark circles.

"Well, you better take a nap soon," Tony joined the two and entered a glass cubicle office that looked like a conference room, "'Cause I want you to talk some sense into Wilson after they reach here. I'll talk to Cap."

"He's not gonna listen, Tony," Y/N sat on a nearby chair and propped her feet up on the table in front of her.

"Worth a shot."

"No, Romania was not Accords-sanctioned," Tony spoke into the phone as the door opened. Y/N turned at the sound of doors opening and saw Nat, Steve, T'Challa, and Sam, walk in with Sharon and Everett Ross.

Y/N stood up from the chair and walked out of the office with Tony, the latter still speaking into the phone, "Colonel Rhodes is supervising clean up."

Y/N caught Sam's eye and gave a disapproving look with a shake of her head and received a non-chalant shrug in return. Nat walked towards her best friend, "Try not to break anything while we fix this," she said over her shoulder.

"Consequences? You bet there'll be consequences," Tony stepped down and walked towards the arrested men, "Obviously, you can quote me on that, because I just said it, anything else? Thank you, sir," he declined the call with that.

"Consequences?" asked Steve.

"Secretary Ross wants you two prosecuted," Tony waved a hand, "Had to give him something," he turned around to walk away with Y/N.

"I'm not getting that shield back, am I?"

"Technically, it's the government property," Nat joined Tony and Y/N/

"Wings too," Y/N added and winced in apology, "Sorry honey."

"That's cold," Sam shook his head at her.

"Warmer than jail," Tony glanced at him over his shoulder.

"Hey," Y/N peeped into the office where Sam was seated after his psychological evaluation.

"Hi," he gave her a small smile. She walked over to the table and sat across the chair from him, "Your receipt for the suit," she slid the paper in her hand to him over the table.

"'Bird costume'?" he read out and gave her an exasperated look, "Seriously?"

"It wasn't me, I swear," she grinned. He glared at her playfully and shoved the paper away.

"I'm gonna be honest with you and not sugar-coat matter I'm here right now," she leaned back on the chair, "Could please do me a favour and rethink about this whole Accords situation?"

"Y/N," Sam closed his eyes briefly, "I already made my opinions clear."

"Opinions can change," she straightened up, rubbing the sleep that threatened to take over her, "And it's not too late to—"

"Switch sides?" he raised an eyebrow, cutting her mid-sentence, "Betray my beliefs and play along the government's wishes?"

"To make the right decision," she completed and frowned at his harsh tone. She was always the person to lose her temper and Sam would be the one to calm her down. This was new.

"Y/N, I don't know what you have planned—"

"I don't have anything planned," she looked offended, "Look," she rested both her palms on the table, "Falling in love is beautiful. It's the sticking together part that gets problematic. And right now, I'm pretty sure we're going through the second part and I'm not liking it," she explained and he remained silent, taking in her words, "Sam, I'm just trying to save this relationship and make this work out between us, alright?" she pointed between themselves.

"Maybe we shouldn't be trying," Sam lowered his gaze to the table for a moment and looked up at her.

Y/N's expression dropped. The frustration of insomnia was added to this newfound anger and she let out a silent breath. Her heart tugged sharply, "So, that's it?" she glared away from him, "You're throwing it all away, just because you wouldn't compromise and rethink your decision?"

"Yeah," he nodded grimly.

"You're right, anyway," She nodded with pursed lips, blinking rapidly, "Just a waste of time, I suppose. What was I thinking?" she scoffed with a humourless chuckle, "Good talk, Sam," she stood up from her seat with so much force that the chair hit the glass wall behind and a few people turned towards the noise, Nat and Tony being one of them.

Without sparing another glance, she walked out the door with a clenched jaw. Sam stared at her retreating figure helplessly, not because he didn't want to catch up with her, but because he didn't know what to say if he did.
