📍CLEVELAND
Karpov found himself straining against the ropes that were tied to his wrists, holding him upside down, hanging from the ceiling. His head was lowered into a bucket, whose water level was rising steadily.
Zemo carried a box ,he had found hidden in the wall, over to the middle on the room and dumped out it's contents. Various files, profiles, photographs, and a red book with a red star in the centre fell out with a few others. He placed the red book aside and grabbed a large file. He opened it and saw a picture of Karpov, "You've kept your looks, Colonel. Congratulations. Mission report. December 16, 1991."
"Who are you?" Karpov asked in a strained voice.
"My name is Zemo," he replied, "I will repeat my question. Mission report. December 16, 1991"
"How did you find me?"
"When S.H.I.E.L.D fell, Black Widow and Red Recluse released HYDRA files to the public. Millions of pages of it. Many of it encrypted; especially the ones with her beloved Dmitri. Not easy to decipher," Zemo looked up at him, "But I have experience. And patience," he added, "A man can do anything if he has those."
"What do you want?"
"Mission report. December 16, 1991"
"Go to hell," Karpov started to breathe heavily.
"São Paulo, 2000," Zemo read out with a frown and then it changed into a smirk when he saw a much younger Y/N's picture in it, "Sometimes, to make an empire fall, you need to knock off the pillars. Literally," he turned a few pages, "Who is Elizabeth?" he asked Karpov, "And where is she?"
"Go to hell!" he struggled.
Zemo walked towards the hanging Colonel and closed the tap that filled the water in the bucket, "HYDRA deserves its place in the ash heap. So your death would not bother me. But I'd have to use this book and file," he raised the red book and file report of São Paulo, "And other bloodier methods to find what I need. I don't look forward to that. You'd only be dying for," he paused, " Your pride," he opened the tap again, this time the water flowed faster, "Who is Elizabeth?"
Karpov stared at him defiantly, not giving in, "Hail HYDRA."
"Fine," Zemo deadpanned as the water level rose and concealed Karpov's face, "I'll find her myself," with that he walked away, leaving the Colonel to struggle for air as the water suffocated him, entering his system.
