MY time with Michael will always be cherished.

I had a connection with him that was unexplainable. It wasn't a mate bond — not even close — but it was beautiful and sweet.

I cared for him deeply.

We spent weeks together, roaming around America. It turned out he was backpacking around America for a year.

He was always very vague when I asked him what he was going to do after traveling. I believed it was something to do with his wolf pack, assuming he was part of a pack.

His friend — Andrew — was always very suspicious of me. When I first met him, I immediately felt his power. He was a future Alpha for certain. He never completely trusted me but he liked me and I liked him.

The relationship I had with Michael started off platonic. He invited me to go around California and Arizona with him. I took him up on that offer since I had nowhere else to go.

I never saw my friend Dawn again.

After a few days, I kissed Michael as we were walking along a beach at sunset. Cliche, I know.

From there, romance blossomed. If anyone ever asked me if I loved Michael, I would say no. I didn't love him but I definitely liked him and I did care about him. The four weeks I spent with him was the best I ever had.

On the last day we spent together, I was oblivious to what was going to come. Michael, Andrew, and I were trekking up the mountain to the grand canyon. It was boiling outside — the summer had to be one of the hottest on record. Beads of sweat ran down my face.
