THE time had come for me to make a formal declaration to my pack

THE time had come for me to make a formal declaration to my pack. I had to explain to them who Liberty was to me and what her species was. I had to force my pack to sign an oath that they would not disclose this secret to anybody else.

It had been a while since I had spoken to Liberty — she was so busy with her brothers, I barely got to see her. It hurt, I had to admit. Was this the hurt she felt when I pushed her away and acted coldly? If so, then god forbid, I would never do that to her again. It felt like torture being away from her.

She knew how to drag you into her orbit. Her piercing and jaw-dropping jade eyes could suck in every emotion I had and make my body feel light and fuzzy.

I had never been a man to say much but I wanted to tell her so many things. I wanted to be different for her.

Even though I had only known her for a short time, I wanted to be a good person. I wanted to be better.

Growing up, I had it drilled into me that my mate wasn't my number one priority.

It was always Red Knight, Red Knight, Red Knight. My duty was to my pack. They were my life.

And when she came along, it all changed.

My pack was convinced I'd never take a Luna. They hoped it would be Eden but that hope dwindled when she left. I could never take Eden as my Luna.

So, announcing Liberty as my mate would definitely shake their foundations. They would be happy; I knew they would. But would they be thrilled at her species? She had told me that she wanted to tell my pack — that they deserved to know the truth if they were going to fight.
