Graduation. It's something that's always been on the back of my mind since I was a little girl, but now that it's two days away it feels surreal in a sense. Something that I had worked towards for fourteen years of my life coming to an end, and something new and even bigger on the horizon.
My dad chose my college for me, and he won't tell me where it's at until after graduation for some reason. I don't know if he thinks it's because I'm going to just drop out of the agreement or something, but I honestly don't care. I didn't think I'd have a choice in the matter anyways.
I hear my footsteps resonate and bounce off of the halls as I walk towards the classroom so I can grab mine and Kenma's bags from class since we forgot them in there earlier. I realize this is one of the last times I'll be doing this at Nekoma.
I wonder if this is how Kuroo felt those last few days of his third year... All of his accomplishments about to be wrapped up into one tiny little package and handed to him in cap and gown. Too excited to be sad, but too nostalgic to be over the moon about it all.
I push open the door and walk in, grabbing mine and Kenma's bags and making my way back to the gymnasium.
Although we didn't make it to nationals, the team had a good season, and the captains had already been decided. I had to force Kenma to sit through reading the boys' applications, and since there was enough room even some of the first years got the opportunity to apply for the vice position.
I know I'll be leaving the club in good hands with Akane. Her cheery spirit will definitely mix well with Lev's once all of us third years are gone, but she has just enough self control for everything to stay together and not fall apart.
I walk into the gym, looking around for Kenma before walking to Kenma and handing him his bag. He gives me a quiet 'thank you' and takes my hand and squeezes it gently before putting his bag in the locker room and heading back to practice.
I take my time to do my usual tasks, enjoying them. Maybe it's because I'm sentimental that I do this, but I don't think I'll have anything like this ever again.
I walk back in and set the bottles down by the benches and take a seat next to Nekomata, having small conversations and listening to his wisdom while we watch the boys run through drills and I take down stats.
Then, just like every other day before, the boys go and get dressed back into their clothes and go home. Kenma and I walk home together, him leaving me at the same street he always does. He tells me to call him when I get home and I just reassure him.
I hear the same small restaurants and the same people out on the street. I see the same signs, certain bikes, and plants.
I unlock the door to my house and walk in, setting my bag on the table next to the couch and yell "tadaima!" taking off my shoes and going to the kitchen for a snack.
I walk out into the living room, grabbing my phone and flicking on the nighttime news and call Kenma.
He picks up the phone, a small smile set on his face since he knows I'm home safe. I sit down on the couch and turn my camera around so him and I can watch the nightly news.
"and for tonight's story: Japan Airlines flight 384 heading towards China has gone missing. It's reported that the pilot and co-pilot are unresponsive and there's been no sign since 6:30 tonight."
"that's horrible" I say, covering my mouth as the news coverage shows a mother and daughter who were passengers on the most likely crashed plane.
