Elliot's mother came downstairs after spending some moments of solitude in her room. The laughter and whispering she had heard from early had died down.

Elliot and Milly were sprawled out on the two sides of the couch, fast asleep. Elliot still had his glasses on and was huddled up in his blanket.

Elliot's mother touched the blanket and sighed. Elliot's father had given him the blanket before his deployment when Elliot was entering high school. Elliot slept with the blanket every night, well, if you could even say he slept.

Elliot and his mother shared the same insomnia, often laying awake for hours worrying over the return of Elliot's father. They hardly ever got a good night's sleep and even have the same eyebags.

This was the easiest Elliot had ever fallen asleep after his father was deployed. Elliot's mother looked at Milly and smiled. She knew that Milly was good for him, she would help him come out of his shell and do other things, things that normal teenagers did, unlike worrying about their fathers.

Elliot's mother walked back upstairs to her room praying for his father's return, and being thankful for her son's good night's sleep.
