The small murmurs of other children fill the autumn air as y/n sat alone on the small swing set of the recess yard. The children played around the lone kid with one another and giggled with delight, recess was normally like this for y/n especially since whenever they wanted to play with the others everyone would either giggle and run away or at the last moments they'd shy out of asking. It was sad since all the child wanted was friends but they had already gotten used to the loneliness, they at least had their uncles plus aunt Haruka to hang out with sometimes after school.
You kicked your legs out making the swing pick up a bit of momentum just as leafs of several colours blew past in a hurry, the pretty colours caught your eye but before you could get up and chase after them you noticed someone already after them. It was the new kid introduced just that day, if you remembered correctly her name was sayuri. She had light brown hair that went down just past her shoulders in a standard straight cut and light green eyes that reminded you a bit of mint gum, she had no freckles decorating her face but stickers of hearts and smiley faces caked them instead to give her a pop of colour from the standard school uniform everyone wore.
She waved at you smiling with a bright smile that rivalled the rays of the sun, you couldn't help but wave back at her making her smile even more impossibly brighter. You were a bit confused, normally no one would wave at you usually too caught up in their feelings and would shy away incase of embarrassment due to rejection or something?. You honestly didn't understand why all the kids your age acted that way but seeing her wave at you so confidently you couldn't help but crack a small smile.
She began approaching making you look in surprise especially since this had never happened before to you. "Hey!, I'm Sayuri what's your name?" She asked playfully holding out a sticker covered hand that was stained by crayola markers that smelt like blueberry and s'mores. You shyly shook her hand mumbling "y/n" making her smile with delight before sitting herself on the swing beside yours as you began to notice other kids on the playground notice how she was talking to you. Some looked jealous yet you couldn't help but be mad at that, they had all the opportunities to talk to you before now yet they get upset the new girl is talking to you before they did.
"I like your stars by the way, they bring out your eyes. My mom said we're all made of stardust but you must've gotten extra in your case" she said swinging back and forth on the swing before pulling out a sheet of stickers from her pocket, it was slightly crumpled but it didn't matter to her nor you as she pulled off a sparkly star sticker that she held out to you. You couldn't help but look at it in awe before taking it and placing it on your small chubby cheeks, Sayuri couldn't help but laugh at seeing your stoic face with the sticker as your eyes lit up.
"Want to add more?" Sayuri asked pulling out another crumpled sticker sheet, you looked over to her and nodded quickly. She pulled more off the sheet and added them to your cheeks to match with the one already there, the stickers she added were stars except for a single crescent moon that she added on your right cheek just below your eye. By the end of the short recess your face was covered like hers and her sticker sheet was completely gone as she then sat herself beside you in the corner for snack time.
