summary :
jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous high court of faerie. ten years later, jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. but many of the fey despise humans. especially prince cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the high king.

to win a place at the court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.

as jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. but as betrayal threatens to drown the courts of faerie in violence, jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and faerie itself.

notes :
i think it's the first book that i've read in a while where the female protagonist didn't annoy the shit out of me. who doesn't love a good enemies to lovers?

i am still new to fae fantasy so i had no idea what a seelie and unseelie court was, which i feel the author needed to explain. (i did look it up after but still)

the book is a bit overhyped BUT it is still really great. unpredictable with plot twists, if you didn't hear any spoilers. it's probably one of the best books i've read this year, i can't wait to read the sequel.

i would definitely recommend it!

🚨spoilers🚨 and opinions :
•i hate her twin taryn, what a bitch. she and locke deserve each other.
•valerian's death was unexpected.
•unfortunately, oak wasn't a shock to me.
•i love the whole theme of cruelty leads to more cruelty and the title of this book chef's kiss 🤌
•not a romance novel, and i like that
•some people complained about the cliffhanger ending but i freaking loved the ending
•some people also said jude is annoying but ugh no she is relatable. what a goddess.
•who doesn't love cardan?
•i'm saying love too much

quotes :
❝ if i cannot be better than them, i will become so much worse ❞

❝ if you hurt me, i wouldn't cry. i would hurt you back ❞

❝ there you are," cardan says as i take my place beside him. "how has the night been going for you? mine has been full of dull conversation about how my head is going to find itself on a spike ❞

❝ have i told you how hideous you look tonight?" cardan asks, leaning back in the elaborately carved chair, the warmth of his words turning the question into something like a compliment.

"no" i say, glad to be annoyed back into the present. "tell me."

"i can't ❞

❝ most of all, i hate you because i think of you. often. it's disgusting, and i can't stop ❞

❝ we don't need to be good. but let's try to be fair ❞

and so much more but i'm not going to write the whole page full of quotes so share your favs :)

okay that's it!
