POV: Lark

"Okay!", I shouted down the hallway. "I'm leaving now!".

I heard Aidan and Greyson's footsteps move closer as I went to press the elevator button to take me down to the lobby.

Arms wrapped around my waist, and I heard Aiden's voice in my ear. "When are you coming back? You promised to help us finish the puzzle later", he reminded me. Greyson and Aid were on a puzzle kick that started during Thanksgiving break and they had finished 12 of them so far. Their goal was to get to 50 before New Year's.

I laughed before untangling his arms. I stepped up on my tiptoes to give him a quick kiss and then turned to Grey to do the same.

"My meeting should only last an hour and then I'll be back around 4:30 to help you guys finish the puzzle".

I stepped into the elevator and blew them a kiss which Aiden caught and put in his pocket. "I'll be back before you know it", I told them as the doors closed and the elevator descended towards the lobby.

Vera had finally gotten back to me earlier today and apologized for her lack of communication. I guess she had a family matter that was taking up a lot of her time and between that and finals week she forgot to email me sooner.

As I stepped out of the subway station I found myself in upper Manhattan and I could see Central Park off in the distance. I put the address into my GPS again and started walking. My directions said it was only a few minutes away from the station, so I set off in that direction.

When I finally arrived at my destination a large concrete building stretched upwards in front of me. Vera didn't strike me as the type that would invest in an office space that looked to be in such a corporate location, but to each their own I suppose.

I walked and made my way to the elevator. Her email stated that her office was on the sixth floor. The lights flickered above me, casting moving shadows all over the lobby. When the elevator arrived, there was no one in it so I stepped inside and quickly pressed the button for floor six.

When the doors opened, I knew something was wrong. I stepped out onto a floor that was empty with no offices insight. Only the leftover scraps of what looked to be cubicles remained. And I could hear water dripping from somewhere.

Something inside me wanted to believe that this was an honest mistake. Vera hadn't meant to send me to an abandoned office building. She wouldn't do that.

Alarm bells started ringing in my head as I heard a door slam shut somewhere in the building.

This was a mistake.

I moved to make a run for it, but I wasn't fast enough. Something hard slammed into the back of my head and everything went dark.
