"Hey, mom, I'm back," you called back, closing the front door behind you.
She rushed over to you and started hastily helping you put away your school things. "Mom, are you alright?"
She glanced up at you, then looked back to your bag and placed it in the mudroom. "You have an interview in 40 minutes." She looked pointedly at you. "You better hurry, young woman."
You salute her, "Yes, mother."
You race upstairs into your room. On your desk, you saw a wig that looked like your hair before, and an abundance of makeup. You scrunched up your nose. Makeup and you don't get along at all.
You change your clothes to the ones mother had laid out on your bed, a cotton polo under a cream crewneck sweater with lemons on it. Not bad, mother, you thought as you slipped it over your head. Not bad.

pic of sweater for reference. if you don't like it, feel free to apply your own style into your fit! im just setting up an image :)
Mother walks into your room when you were taking off your contact lenses. "Oh, good, you're almost ready." With that, she set you down on your chair and started your makeup.
She just finished applying your foundation and was about to put yellow eyeshadow on you before you stopped her. "Uh, mom?"
"Yes, dear?" She paused what she was about to do and looked at you.
"Can you please use a more neutral pallet for my makeup?" You ask hesitantly.
"Why?" She looked at the yellow dust on her brush then at the yellow lemons on your sweater. "If you have yellow eyeshadow, it will match your lemon jumper."
You sighed. "That color of yellow does not match these lemons, mom. It will just make me look pale and sick."
Mother contemplated a bit before taking a new brush and patting it on a light caramel color. "Alright, honey."

Your makeup is done and your wig is fitted on your head. You looked in the mirror for the first time and you got overwhelmed by a tidal wave of emotions.
You had gotten used to your new hair, and seeing your old cut on you again felt strange and out of place. Your eyes were their normal color, too- exposed and unobscured from the contact lenses. In other words, you look like when you had just stepped out of the limousine with your co-stars from Metropolis, striding eagerly to where you were going to get your Oscar.
It was like nothing had changed- like a world-wide pandemic hadn't changed the course of everyone's lives. But it has- it had, whether it was for the better or for the worse.
You look at yourself for one more second, then turned away and sighed. So much has changed, you thought bitterly, but then you remember Nathan- the sweet gray eyed boy you never would have met if it weren't for COVID. But maybe it's worth it if I gain a friend.
You walk over to your desk and clear it out, then start up your PC.
"It's show time, Y/N."
