Epilogue (23)

Five Years Later...

"명진아 이리와요!" (Myungjin ah, come here !) A child about the age of four ran into my arms. I was barely eighteen when I walked away for the Lee brothers. Now I was a twenty three year old mother. Myungjin' father wasn't really involved in our lives. He seemed to enjoy acting like we don't exist. Myungjin' birthday was in a couple of days. 

I named my son after my ancestor Myungjin. I picked my son up & walked into our house. Upon entering, I got an unnatural chill. Myungjin was never around supernatural creatures. Did he feel what I felt ? "Cold...so cold...", he muttered curling more into me. I wrapped him in a blanket, sitting Myungjin on our sofa. 

I looked around slowly when a giant unnatural breeze made the hairs on my skin stand up. "반갑지 않으세요?" (Not happy to see us ?) I smiled in shock. They truly didn't change since I last had seen them. "You're lucky I didn't attack you. You gave me quite the scare." Sunoo, Niki, & Jungwon headed into the living after greeting me. I sat Myungjin in my lap as the boys looked at him. "Myungjin don't be afraid. These are your uncles."

I let Myungjin play with them while I went to prepare some lunch for him. "He looks just like you," Sunghoon said joining me in the kitchen. I let out a small laugh, "He is my son. I would like to think he would look a little like me." I looked at Sunghoon closely. He didn't seem to be in any pain. "So why did you guys stop by ?" If I didn't have a responsibility as a mother, I would entertain them being so impulsive. I can't risk Myungjin' health though. "여러분도 들어보셨을 겁니다. 흡혈귀들은 피에 대한 저항력이 강해지고 있습니다. 심지어 혈흔이 존재하지 않을 정도입니다. 우리는 인간들 사이에서 자유롭게 살 수 있습니다." (I am sure you've heard. Vampires are becoming more resistant to blood. It is even to the point bloodlust is nonexistent. We can live freely among humans.) 

This was the first I was hearing of such a change with vampires. What about everything else ? Why was blood no longer a necessity for them all of a sudden ? "What does this have to do with me ? I can't just abandon my life. I need to think about  Myungjin." I looked into the living room. Myungjin seemed to love being around Jungwon, Niki, & Sunoo. It was cute. 

I sighed, "We can't come with you. I promised to rebuild our legacy. That legacy starts with Myungjin. I'm sorry." Sunghoon wrote something down on a paper towel. "You're always free to come see us. Myungjin as well." Just as quick as they arrived, the left. I picked up Myungjin, "아 명진아 배고프세요? 엄마랑 밥먹으러가요?" (Hungry, Myungjin ah ? Going to eat with Mom ?) Myungjin just smiled cutely as I carried to the kitchen.

This was my life now. My son.
