"So... Hazel has been in a bad mood recently. Would you have anything to do with this?" Don't ask how I ended up in the car with Megan. I just did. I like Megan, I think she has a lot of interesting Hazel gossip to talk about, and I was too lazy to put up a fight.

"Yeah. I've been ignoring her" I replied. Megan laughed.

"No wonder. She lives off of attention. You don't give her attention, she will not leave you alone until she gets it"

"I figured. She hasn't left me alone for more than an hour"

"Mhm. I don't know if it's a genetic thing or just coincidence, but I've found that most seconds need more attention than firsts or thirds. Firsts and thirds, of course, tend to get more attention due to our personalities, but seconds require constant attention or they become more irritable than usual" she mused "Hazel doesn't like you ignoring her"

"I knew that" I chuckled.

"It is actually really interesting... Unfortunately, I can't get into detail, but it is funny. I will bet she starts trying to get more attention from you in the next few weeks. I bet Micha would love to explain it" I honestly only pretended to be interested in this part of her rant. It was interesting and all, but I kinda wasn't feeling it today.

"Hey, um, last time we talked and you kinda..." I let my voice trail off so I didn't accidentally insult the ravenette.

"Yeah. Hazel picked up some bad habits from our sister... I just don't want her to act off them, and I know how irritating this is for you... I want to make it as easy and painless as I can for you. Hazel too. She is a good person, and I've told you this before, but she tries. She wants to be... Accepted for what she is. She just doesn't understand what she is doing wrong" she gave me a small smile that was boarding sadness.

"And I'm not saying that you should just go and give yourself up to her... But... Please don't judge her by what you've seen... That has all been the fault of conditioning... And don't give up on her. Take breaks, please, but don't give up on her" she finished. "And I made it all serious again" she groaned.

"Yeah. Look, I know you want her to be happy, and I appreciate what you're doing for me, but I can't. I don't think I am what you're looking for. I just want this all to stop..."

"Are you really sure that's what you want?" She looked at me sadly. "I'll give you time for your answer. I can take Hazel away from you... You won't have to see her or me for some time, and we, the N.S., can leave you alone. But... You don't realize how much you've changed Hazel already. If I stop you before Hazel makes her changes habitual, we lose the progress and go back to square one. And it's not like there is infinite time for Hazel to learn and be changed. Eventually she's going to turn to desperation and take extreme measures that I promised myself and her I would keep her from acting on. Ugh, Megan, shut your mouth, right?" She laughed dryly.

"I will tell you something I shouldn't. Libby has never been wrong. Never. Not in a thousand lifetimes. I will sound awful saying this, but Hazel is the only one who will ever be exactly what you need. People often go their whole lives without finding the person to them as she is to you. You can break her. She will break you. By god, that girl is so oblivious she will break you without knowing where she went wrong... But... She'll love you. And I know you will learn to love her. Just... Don't give up on you"

No. Fucking. Words.

There are no words.

None.

She has to be exaggerating.

"You don't have to believe me. All you have to do is listen" she shrugged with this sad, knowing half smile like I saw once on Hazel. The Mona Lisa smile. And, for a moment, I saw Hazel instead of Megan. That made me both angry and pleased. Then I flashed back to that dream I had forever ago... That made me more confused than ever. Content, most of all. And trapped.
