Dream has just escaped a very toxic relationship with a narcissist (friend, S/O, etc...). They constantly used him, his aura, his comfort, his empathy, everything, and they didn't like anyone he cared about, like Ink, Blue, Nightmare...
He's starting to be happy again. Genuinely happy. He feels safe and free and less like he has to look over each shoulder all of the time.
Then, he gets a letter, and his Soul sinks to his stomach, as if he's walked into a negative AU.
"I'm sorry for everything I've ever done to you. I was a horrible soul and I don't blame you if you don't forgive me..."
And despite yearning to believe this soul is actually changing, he can't shake the feeling that something is terribly, terribly wrong.
