𝆕 Walking with a Ghost - Tegan and Sara

16th March, 2009

Monday, 9 am.

Monday mornings were usually a breeze for Mia. After a relaxing weekend, she arrived at work feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day. She considered herself fortunate to have a job that she genuinely enjoyed, which spared her from the dreaded Monday blues that plagued so many others.

On Sundays, Mia often stayed home during the day, allowing herself some much-needed rest after playing gigs and working on her music. Yesterday had been a particularly productive day, filled with inspiration and creativity. She had spent hours doodling lyrics and experimenting with new riffs and melodies on her guitar. It was all coming together, but there was still a missing piece—a crucial element that would transform her musical ideas into a complete song. She knew she needed the opinions and input of her bandmates to help her bridge that gap.

As the workday commenced, Mia found herself engrossed in meetings, casual conversations by the water cooler, and a flurry of emails. She enjoyed the camaraderie of her colleagues and even managed to have a pleasant lunch with her friends Sonja and Karen. By 5 pm, Mia felt a sense of accomplishment as she wrapped up her tasks for the day.

The best working day is the one you leave at 5 pm. Period.

After work, Mia and her bandmates had a scheduled practice session at their usual studio. Traffic had caused Mia to be fashionably late, a regular excuse for her tardiness. The band played for two hours straight, their music reverberating through the walls of the studio. During a coffee break, Kyle, always the extrovert, regaled the group with his encounters with famous musicians like Eric Avery, Slash, and Zooey Deschanel. Johnny, who was more introverted, listened politely but wasn't particularly impressed by Kyle's stories.

Back in the recreation room, Mia finally brought up the piece she had been working on. The band members listened intently and acknowledged that it had potential, but they agreed that it was missing a certain "soul." They attempted to collaborate on the song, pouring their creativity and energy into it, but despite their efforts, it remained incomplete, lacking that elusive essence. Eventually, the boys decided to call it a day, ready to head home and unwind. Mia, however, felt the need for some vocal cooldowns, so she stayed behind a little longer.

When Mia finally left the studio, it was nearing 10:30 pm. She strolled along Santa Monica Blvd, making her way to her car, when her phone rang. It was her dad, checking in on her and reminding her about her cousin Jessica's wedding in Canada in April. Mia gently reminded him that he had already declined the invitation due to her busy schedule. Her father seemed increasingly forgetful as the years went by, and Mia couldn't help but feel a pang of concern.
