(A/N: Day 7 of our 12 Days of Christmas updates)
Shiori's Pov
I lay Sasuke down and I sit beside him. We hear someone screaming from above us. Aoi falls in the river
"Naruto did it" I hear Sakura say happily
'...He did it'
Sakura looks up. I look up as well but I remain sitting
"Naruto! Idate!" Sakura calls
"Don't worry, Sasuke and Shiori are fine!" Sakura says
I clench my fists as I look at her
"Don't worry. We'll have you out of there in no time!" Naruto says
"No! Forget about us. You just get to the finish line! Time is running out!" Sakura says
'You just want to be close to Sasuke as long as you could, too bad, I'm not letting you. I'm here too'
Idate and Naruto climb the remaining rope, I can see them talking to each other. After a while, Idate hands Naruto his pocket knife. Naruto cuts the rope with it and they swing across
'The rocks'
"Ah. You guys are heading straight for the rocks!" Sakura yells
"Yeah I know. Don't worry I'm on it. For crying out loud I'm almost out of Chakra!" Naruto exclaims
Naruto catches Idate and they run up the cliff
'That's a relief, they made it'
"Way to go you guys! Now hurry up and get to the finish line!" Sakura waves at them
Naruto and Idate are waving back at us
"Sit tight Sakura! Shiori! We'll be back to help before you know it, okay?!" Naruto exclaims
Naruto and Idate starts running off
'They better get back soon'
Sakura starts walking towards me and Sasuke, I take out a shuriken and throw it in front of her feet
"Hey! What was that for?! You could've hit me" she says in a panic
"I'm really frustrated right now because of you, you attacked me as well, so it would be wise if you keep your distance. I won't purposely miss the second time" I say as I hold out more shuriken
"Listen. I get you're angry but I have to check if Sasuke's okay. You said it yourself didn't you? That we shouldn't bring personal issues with each other affect our performance during a mission?" Sakura says
"You crossed the line first. I'll check on Sasuke so just stay in your side and I'll stay on mine. Let's quietly wait for help to arrive" I say
"Fine!" she says angrily
"Fine" I say back
'Before, I was a little unsure of what to really feel, but now I'm certain. I feel nothing but pure hatred for her'
-TIMESKIP-
After some time passes, help came and we attended the ceremony, announcing Idate the winner. The Wagarashi Family is disbanded. Sasuke's awake. A boat from Konoha is sent to pick us up. Sasuke is being carried by a stretcher, I'm standing next to him and we're holding each other's hand for comfort
"I want to thank you Naruto" Idate says
"Yeah well, it was my pleasure" Naruto smiles
"I've come to get the wounded" Ibiki Sensei says as he emerges from the boat
"Ibiki Sensei"--Sakura
"Ah. Big brother"--Idate
"Where is the wounded?" Ibiki Sensei asks
"Right here Sensei" I answer
"Okay, let's get him on the boat then" Ibiki Sensei says
"Right" Naruto says
"Yes sir" I say
Me and the medical ninjas carrying Sasuke starts walking towards the boat. I can feel Sakura looking at us, I glance at her from the corner of my eye and get on board the boat.
Sasuke's injuries are treated. We're starting to set sail. While the others are saying their goodbyes to Idate, Sasuke and I are sitting together away from them. We're tightly holding each other's hand. We're both clearly frustrated
Sakura starts approaching us
'Why won't she just go away and leave us alone?'
"Sasuke, does it hurt?" she asks
"No it doesn't" Sasuke answers flatly
"Oh good. Don't worry, those wounds will heal once we get back to the village" Sakura smiles
My grip on Sasuke's hand tightens. Sasuke stands up, pulling me up with him
"Shiori and I want to be alone right now, stop bothering us" Sasuke says coldly as we walk away from Sakura
"Ah wait" Sakura calls, I turn my head towards her and glare at her, she glares back at me. I turn my head straight ahead as Sasuke and I walk to the front of the ship
"What did she say or do? I've never seen you this angry and fed up before" Sasuke says
"She said she doesn't care what I say, she'll continue to pursue you. What's most annoying is she's like an annoying fly that won't go away and keeps coming back, more persistent" I say
"I know what you mean. But even so, I'll continue to push her away, you're the only one I want worrying over me" Sasuke says with a cool face
"What about you? You're looking very frustrated too" I say
"...What Aoi said...he said I wasn't worthy of you and my family name. When he said you got dragged into the clan's affairs and that I was a loser...I just...I just lost it" Sasuke says
Sasuke tightens his hold on my hand
"Sasuke" I say in a whisper
"I wanted to teach him a lesson and make him eat his words. But...I wasn't able to beat him...And yet...and yet Naruto was" Sasuke says as he clenches his teeth
"When we were falling off the cliff, I was ready to save both of us, but Sakura...she...she beat me to it. The same thing happened with Gaara too, with both of them. Sakura's trying to act like a hero and trying to do my job of protecting you" I say
"And Naruto was able to beat Gaara while we didn't stand a chance" Sasuke says
"We both have more built up frustrations than we thought" I say
"Yeah...and I don't like it" Sasuke says
We look back at Naruto and Sakura who are at the side of the ship looking back and waving at Idate again. Sasuke and I look at each other then back at our two teammates, our hands balls into fists and clench our fists. We've reached our limit. We've been pushed to the edge
