At a loss for words,
a breath escapes her,
a sigh or a gasp?
No one knows for sure.

Drinks cold coffee to wake her up,
believing that what just happened was a dream,
"It's just a dream," she reminds herself.
"This isn't real," she reiterates.

A slap in the face, a pinch on the wrist,
she wears an astonished look on her face,
drops her drink to the floor,
an inner mess she's never seen before.

Goes to the diner bathroom,
rinses her face, stares at her reflection,
"This isn't a dream," she realizes.
"This is real," she states.

At a loss for words,
a breath escapes her,
a sigh or a gasp?
No one knows for sure.
