Dream POV

January 20

This is it.
The day I escape.
I have no plan.
But I'm going to just go for it.

Only Sam and Y/N are supposed to be on duty. When Y/N brings me lunch, I escape.

The lava begins to fall and I get ready.

"Hey Dream," Y/N says carrying a tray of my food.

"Hey."

"Nothing much today, just a sandwich and some salad."

"Oh that's fine."

I take the tray from her and she stands off to the side watching me.

"It's been a year," she says finally.

"What?" I say with a bite of sandwich still in my mouth.

"It's been a year since you've been in the prison"

"Yeah, I know," I finish my meal quickly and hand her the dishes. "Thank you."

"Do you want me to leave?"

"Please."

Y/N sighs but walks towards the bridge as it starts to move.

I step closer.

Now is my chance.

Just as my chains can't reach anymore, I lunge forward and grab at her belt, trying to find the key. I manage to pull her back and the dishes fall to the ground with a crash.
She spins around and our eyes lock.

Her gaze falls to me grabbing her.
Her eyes are confused, but then, fill with realization.

"What are you doing?" She asks in a stern voice.

"Uh— surprise sparring?"

I slowly pull out the key and I see her eyes widen.

But she's faster.

Before I know it, her fist comes into contact with my jaw. I stumble back in surprise and she yanks the key from my grasp and pushes me against the wall. My back hits the hard obsidian and I feel the blade of her sword against my neck.

My eyes search her face.

Anger, betrayal, hurt.

"Please," I beg as she applies a little bit of pressure to the blade. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I wasn't trying to escape."

She pulls the sword away from me and shoots the lever to lower the lava. Then goes and sits in her usual spot by the lava. Her head is turned facing the lava, not saying a word.

I collapse to the ground but she doesn't come to help me.

I slowly pull my knees into my chest.

I fucked up.
I fucked up so badly.
Not only did I not escape, but I betrayed my friend.
How can I fix this?

Tell the truth.

I slowly move towards her. The chains drag slowly along the ground.

I move closer until I'm sitting next to her. She doesn't even acknowledge me.

"Y/N," I plead.

She doesn't look at me.

"Look at me please."

She ignores me.

"I'm sorry. I just wanted to be out of here. I've been here for a year and I want to be outside. I know you've taken me outside before and I'm grateful for that but it just doesn't feel the same. I'm sorry I betrayed your trust. I know that you've only tried to make my life better. I'm really sorry, I won't do it again."
