Somewhere near New York, a few months later

Emilia was standing in the kitchen making herself a cup of tea.

Wanda and Vision were still out of touch, and Steve, thanks to Bucky's letter, didn't seem as depressed for some time as he had been since the radio silence between him and Tony.

They still hadn't heard from Thor and Bruce. She missed Dr. Banner. He was the only link to her past and not knowing what was up with him bothered her.

There was no doubt in anyone's mind that he or Thor were still alive - after all, who could kill a god and Hulk.

Natasha was getting around and keeping them both informed.

Sam was the only one bringing some life into their shelter, trying to dispel the dull mood.

Emilia wished more and more often to go back to the seemingly carefree Wakanda.

The smell of the forests and steppes. The lapping of the waters. Those cute little Galago babies that she would have loved to take with her. The exotic smell of fruits in the market. Those starry nights around the campfire. Barnes...

'Wait - why the fuck is he coming through my mind again?!'

Emilia caught herself thinking about the one-armed Jesus knockoff more and more often, even though she really didn't want to. However, what had happened a few days before she left kept creeping into her thoughts.

As did the feeling this grumpy Sergeant left in her.

She knew how much strength it must have cost him to free himself from the chains of Hydra. He finally had a chance for a little bit of peace in Wakanda and that made her happy somehow. Even if she wasn't the reason.

"Will you make me one too?"

Steve came into the kitchen. It was just after midnight and, as is often the case, neither of them could sleep. Emilia poured another cup of hot water and dipped the tea bag in it.

She placed both cups on the kitchen counter and sat down on one of the bar stools"Any word from the two lovebirds yet?"

"Thanks... unfortunately not." Steve sat down next to her and stared into the steaming cup.

"Sam hasn't found them yet either."

A brief appreciative grumble escaped Emilia's lips at the thought.

"Vision's good at covering his tracks. Huh... no wonder - with the mix of Stark Industries and an alien scepter. They could at least get back to us sometime, though."

She was worried about her friends. Even if she was very fond of their undisturbed togetherness, she couldn't get rid of the fact that she hadn't received any sign of life from them in the last few weeks.

When suddenly the door opened, they both looked around in surprise. Sam came into the open kitchen loaded with some bags and a pizza box.

"Hey there. Mind if I join you guys?"

"What's keeping you up this late?" Steve asked him.

"I was hungry. And since I know you two well enough to realize that you're more nocturnal than diurnal, I thought I'd bring you something over."

Smiles stretched across Steve and Emilia's faces and at the sight of the delicious smelling pepperoni pizza and Asian delicacies, both feasted on hunger.
