Chapter 25

Arriving at the edge of the protective dome, a dozen Dora Milaje warriors stood about a hundred meters from the barrier.

Behind them, a black structure stretched into the sky. It had invaded the ground. In front of the spaceship, huge four-armed creatures were trying to break through the protective wall.

Sam took a lap around the area and couldn't believe what he saw.

"I don't remember spotting such' disgusting creatures in the premonition. If I didn't know what aliens looked like, these would be a fitting costume template for 'Alien vs. Predator.'"

"What do we do now?" asked Wanda, who was still standing next to Emilia and the others on a small rise.

"The barrier is holding them back. And it seems they're the only ones attacking."

Shuri glanced briefly at the hologram above her wrist. It showed a map of damage and the area around the protective dome.

When it suddenly went silent and the aliens stopped, they hoped that had been it.But they were proven wrong.

With an immense roaring, six worm-like creatures appeared from the spaceship. When they approached, their dimensions became really clear.

They were as long and large as a typical American truck and trailer - but they had several lance-like pointed spikes on the sides of their bodies in addition to the huge fangs.

"I guess they're bringing out their big guns now." Natasha lined up ready to fight, as did the others.

Emilia focused on her powers and tried to keep calm. Adrenaline surged through her body and the fear that her premonition might already come true paralyzed her for a moment.

But only until she noticed what the aliens were up to.

They stopped in front of the barrier and began to dig in within seconds. Only a short time later, they bore out of the ground on the other side behind the lined-up Dora Milaje.

The attacks came by surprise. Again and again they sought an escape route through the underground to attack the Avengers from behind.

Within a few minutes, the landscape resembled a single minefield. It was impossible to fight even one of the giant aliens.

"I can't catch them! I never know where they'll show up..."

Okoye stood with two of the warriors quite a distance away from Emilia, trying again to escape one of the aliens. Neither the Dora Milaje, nor the Avengers noticed how they were systematically driven apart.

"This is not going to work! As long as we don't know where they're attacking from, we don't stand a chance!"

Steve was the first to realize what they were up to and tried to get an overview with the help of Sam and Vision: "Can you see more from above?"

"I' m afraid not, Captain. It's like that mole game. They pop up wherever they like."

Bucky, hearing Vision over his in-ear, looked a little confused in Steve's direction: "What's he talking about?"

"He means the kids game where you have to hit mole heads with a hammer to win. Quite fun, actually."

"Sam!" To avoid a landslide, Steve jumped off a loose hill onto firmer ground. However, he didn't miss calling Sam to reason for his wandering thoughts.
