My back met the ground with a loud smack, my head bouncing off the mat.

Again.

"Ow."

A sigh, one full of disappointment came from above me.

"Maybe we should take a break."

Panic made me swing myself up to my feet, meeting Erica who stood on the mat in a red short-sleeved workout shirt and tight yoga pants with taped-up hands.

"What?" My voice came out in a rush. "Why?"

She cut me a concerned look. "Because you're distracted."

Even with her soft drawl, the shame was hot and heavy, making me flinch.

"Sorry."

A hand cuts through the air. "I'm not after your apologies," she said, still staring at me with concern. "Is there something bothering you? Is it your nose?"

"No," I said, bringing my hand up to my nose; splint-free with no bumps. Dr Saadeh did a good job. "This doesn't even hurt anymore."

It was true. Following Dr Kumar's instructions, I had taken off the splint before we met again earlier this week, thinking it would be marginally better than my last time.

But by God, he was worse.

Excluding the misogynistic remarks, he would send me to do the grunt work; getting his coffee, putting on the electricals, his dry cleaning for fuck's sakes. I've barely been there for more than a week and he never allows me to take part in any of the experiments or at least see what is going on.

Even when I tried to look at my mother's old things in their library, I found out I needed access to it. Seo was definitely not talking to me and, Oswald would've given him but unfortunately had been banned by Dr Kumar from even lending it out.

I was at my wit's end.

"Ugh!" I threw my hands up in the air. "Men!"

Zach, a boy who sprayed too much deodorant than deemed necessary stopped by our mat with a sleazy grin.
