just a few hours had passed after jacob and chaewon's argument. she hadn't told anyone about it, and so did he. they kept it for themselves since they both didn't want to explain everything to anyone, also, she saw how jacob bursted out of the room after what happened. she wanted to give him what he didn't : pity. chaewon was resting on the couch of the new living room when a glass of water was put on the table next to her. she looked up to see hyunjae right above her.
"don't be scared. i'm here to apologise." he said before chaewon could do or say anything. hyunjae had to leave soon, they had localised a bunch of guards he and younghoon had to kill. nevertheless, he absolutely wanted to take the time to talk to her without anyone interrupting them. "first, i want to say sorry for mistreating you at our first encounter. it was a reflex for me to act harsh and scary to you, but now i realize that you can be very precious to me- to us. i'm talking here as friends, you know? it would be stupid of you to think that we could have trusted you from the start but- i think that despite everything, we could maybe learn to bare each others."
the girl sat up painfully on the couch, the blanket around her as she covered herself slightly. she would be lying if she said that she wasn't scared. she tried her best to stay calm when he came to sit by her side. anyway, she didn't want to be fooled by hid words. she would never trust them.
"hyunjae…"
"it's only my point. i'm aware that after what we did to you, you're distant and furious. we're gonna let you time from now on." he said, his words were meaningless to her even though he seemed to be serious about it. was it another way to be manipulated by them?
"i'm not ready to be friend to anyone here." her answer was obviously not the one expected but hyunjae went with it, he really didn't want her to be scared of him anymore -if it was even possible at this point.
he let out an heavy sigh, nodding his head in silence as he was searching for words.
"it's okay, chaewon." surprised by his simple words, she knew that he wasn't done talking. "also.. i don't know if any of the members had told you that but… we care for you, joke aside. for some reason, we feel like we need to protect you, not only because of that stupid contract or what so ever. that's the reason why changmin acted like this, why haknyeon, i and the other members are acting like that. please forgive what i did back then.. i wanted you for myself, and it was so stupid of me so please..i'm begging you… you can be comfortable around me even… even for a millisecond, i don't care i just… scaring you is not my goal anymore."
his monologue ended and he carefully patted her shoulder slowly, it was almost too delicate to come from him.
"i… i don't know hyunjae.." she said and winced as she stood up from the couch. he was quick to help her, putting her not injured arm around his shoulder so she could hold onto him.
the man leaned closer to her ear, ready to talk. "i need to go in a while, unfortunately. but i promise that we will always be by your side. i'm personally never let you go." he whispered, seeing the chills on her spine. he then led her to her room. it was still hard for her, the wounds juyeon gave her kept hurting her like hell.
once in the room, hyunjae laid down the girl on the bed, tucking her in the soft velvet blanket that was on the mattress.
"i don't want to stay here and do nothing. i actually wanted to go into the yard." she mumbled, sighing secretly. she felt depressed, and to add to that, she was a prisoner.
"the yard? all alone?" he scoffed, not believing what he heard. he couldn't let his angel outside by herself.
chaewon groaned and rolled her eyes endlessly. "of course not… i don't want to be killed by one of your crazy self… eric is always there, and if he's not there's still the guards."
her explanation wasn't enough for him, he caressed her cheek and started to walk around the room.
"i don't trust the guards. stay with chanhee in his room when we're gone, it's safer that way." he told her, surprisingly chaewon was no longer scared by him. yes he was still threatening to her because of the memories she had of him, but he seemed genuinely worried about her. that made her feel somehow good.
"okay.." she answered and closed her eyes, still listening to him.
he made his way back to her bed, stroked her hair softly and sat beside her wrapped up body.
"we're going to the docks tonight. according to our informer, heo hajoon, the man we're looking for, hasn't left korea yet. but, i still need to be ready, we leave in a few minutes so i should join the others now." he said and put his hand on her bandage. he passed his fingers on it, stood up, and exited the room after a quick goodbye.
